From Rightwingnewshour.com:
You bet Mahmoud Khalil is removable, federal immigration judge Jamee Comans ruled. Go ahead and deport him. After Democrats exhaust all their appeals, that is, he added. The DOJ provided more than enough “clear and convincing evidence” to show there’s good reason to kick him out.
Khalil deportation a go
“The deportation case against Mahmoud Khalil can proceed,” Al Jazeera laments.
On Friday, April 11, Judge Jamee Comans upset progressives by siding with the Justice Department. Despite all the liberal propaganda, free speech rights have nothing to do with it.
Khalil got himself in hot water by agitating gullible Columbia University students into occasionally violent acts of civil disobedience. The media continues to insist he was only detained “over his involvement in pro-Palestine protests.”
Even the non-violent protests were blatantly antisemitic. Jewish students feared for their lives and were unable to physically attend classes.
After a two-hour hearing in his Louisiana courtroom, Judge Comans banged his gavel and told the disputants he had heard enough.
The government, he ruled, had “established by clear and convincing evidence” that Khalil is removable. Permanent residency status isn’t the same as full citizenship and comes with a list of restrictions. Causing political mayhem isn’t allowed.
Appeal in progress
His lawyers were quick to relate that Khalil isn’t about to take that as a final answer. Not as long as someone with deep pockets is willing to come up with their legal fees.
They got the staff busy overloading the laser printer with appeal briefs. “Mahmoud was subject to a charade of due process,” they maintain.
The defense team takes the position that the judge’s totally correct interpretation of well established immigration law is “a flagrant violation of his right to a fair hearing and a weaponization of immigration law to suppress dissent.”
That’s their theory and they’re sticking with it. Khalil remains in a cell and won’t be going anywhere but Syria. “This is not over, and our fight continues,” attorney Marc Van Der Hout declares.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio had submitted a letter to the court as testimony. He spent a full two pages explaining exactly why Khalil should be removed for his role in “antisemitic protests and disruptive activities, which fosters a hostile environment for Jewish students in the United States.”
The judge agreed, spelling out that the State Department can “revoke an immigrant’s legal status even where their beliefs, associations or statements are otherwise lawful.” Since Democrats don’t believe in prosecuting criminals, Khalil never thought anyone would dare to actually enforce the law.
