For years, Americans were told to “trust the science”—but what happens when the science says one thing and government bureaucrats say another? That’s exactly what we’re seeing unfold at the FDA, where Dr. Vinay Prasad, the agency’s new chief vaccine official, has overruled internal reviewers not once, not twice, but three times on COVID-19 vaccine approvals. And this time, the overruling isn’t pushing more vaccine mandates or rubber-stamping Big Pharma’s wish list—it’s doing the opposite.
Let’s be clear: what Dr. Prasad is doing marks a dramatic shift from the reckless, politically driven approach we saw under Biden’s FDA. Prasad has limited vaccine approvals to only those Americans who actually face serious risk from COVID-19—namely the elderly and people with underlying health conditions. That’s not just common sense. That’s science.
Case in point: Moderna wanted its Spikevax COVID-19 vaccine approved for all children 6 months and older. But FDA reviewers couldn’t say with confidence that the benefits outweighed the risks for healthy kids—and Dr. Prasad agreed. In his July 9 memo, he explicitly wrote, “There is not a substantial certainty of a net clinical benefit to vaccinating healthy children.” Translation: there’s no good reason to inject healthy toddlers with an experimental shot for a virus that poses minimal risk to them.
Let that sink in. The FDA’s top vaccine official is publicly acknowledging what conservatives and independent physicians have been saying for years: COVID-19 vaccines were rushed, oversold, and pushed on populations that didn’t need them. For saying this in 2021, you could be banned from social media. In 2022, you could lose your job. But now, the FDA itself is catching up to the truth.
And it’s not just kids. Prasad also overruled his staff on Moderna’s next-generation shot, mNEXSPIKE, and on Novavax’s vaccine—limiting approvals to older Americans and those with pre-existing conditions. Once again, he cited the lack of data showing that these new vaccines actually prevent serious illness or death in healthy people. That’s a stunning admission, considering how aggressively these shots were marketed as life-saving for everyone.
You won’t hear this on CNN, but it’s worth repeating: no randomized, controlled trial has ever demonstrated a reduction in severe COVID-19, hospitalization, or death in children from these vaccines. That’s not a conspiracy theory—it’s a fact, acknowledged by the FDA itself.
Even the Department of Health and Human Services, hardly a bastion of conservative thought, admitted that “healthy children infected with COVID-19 have consistently shown strong resilience and face an extremely low risk of serious illness or harm,” and that “the risks of the COVID-19 vaccine may outweigh the potential benefits” for these kids. That’s about as close to a government mea culpa as we’re going to get.
Naturally, the medical establishment is howling. Harvard’s Dr. Jeremy Faust, a longtime critic of President Trump and a reliable mouthpiece for the COVID panic crowd, accused Dr. Prasad of ignoring data and dismissing internal experts. But here’s the irony: Faust and his ilk spent the last four years demanding unquestioning obedience to public health “authorities.” Now that one of those authorities is actually applying scientific rigor instead of political pressure, they can’t handle it.
Dr. Prasad isn’t a right-wing firebrand. He’s a mainstream academic with a history of criticizing FDA overreach. Before joining the agency, he called out the FDA for approving a gene therapy linked to multiple deaths, despite internal concerns. In other words, he’s doing exactly what public servants are supposed to do—putting safety and evidence above politics and profit.
The political Left doesn’t want this kind of transparency. They don’t want nuance. They want blanket mandates, mass compliance, and no questions asked. But Americans are waking up. They remember the lies they were told about lockdowns, natural immunity, school closures, and vaccine efficacy. And they’re not in the mood for another round of elite gaslighting.
Dr. Prasad’s actions show that sanity is returning to our public health agencies—slowly, cautiously, and not without resistance. But under the leadership of President Trump and officials willing to tell the truth, even when it’s inconvenient, the machinery of government is finally being redirected toward reason and accountability.
It’s long overdue. And it’s just the beginning.
