Members of the Senate Judiciary Committee were poised to vote on advancing President Donald Trump’s judicial nominee to a full vote when Democrats stormed out.
The drama unfolded as the panel considered Emil Bove, Trump’s former personal attorney, whose nomination has ruffled the feathers of some former federal prosecutors and former state and federal judges, as well as Democrats, according to Fox News.
“Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., urged Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, before the vote to allow them to consider the allegations against Bove made by a former Justice Department attorney, Erez Reuveni, in a whistleblower report,” Fox News reported.
“Booker invoked Rule 4 of the committee rules in trying to push for additional debate time, which Grassley declined to acknowledge before ordering the vote — prompting the Democrat members of the panel to abruptly exit the hearing room,” the report added.

“What are you afraid of?” Booker exclaimed as Grassley attempted to hold the vote. on Bove, who’s nominated to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.
“Debating this [nomination], putting things on the record — Dear God,” the New Jersey Democrat said, “that’s what we are here for.”
“This lacks decency, this lacks decorum, it shows that you will not hear from your colleagues,” Booker told Grassley.
“You are a decent man,” he added, urging additional time for debate.
“Why are you doing this?” Booker asked as his dramatics continued. “What are they saying to you that is making you do something to violate the decorum, the decency and the respect of this committee to at least hear each other out?”
Booker continued his ranting in a clip he posted to X.

Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, D-RI. reportedly declared, “There’s something rotten in Denmark,” quoting William Shakespeare as he dramatically stormed out of the room.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., told reporters that his Republican colleagues’ decision to move past objections and the whistleblower allegations was a “blatant violation of the rules of committee.”
“I haven’t seen anything like it in 15 years in the U.S. Senate,” he said after exiting the committee room.
“Just overriding, roughshod, the rules of the committee to silence members [on concerns involving] the nominees for lifetime appointments,” he added. “We can disagree about whether they should be on the court, but not about the rules that put them there.”
Grassley, meanwhile, reminded that the Democrats’ “obstruction” was not “unprecedented.”
“What happened here today is no different than when Democrats cut off debate on Judge Kasubhai and Judge Lee against Republican protest to continue debate,” he said.
