I went to see the just-released movie Superman with my sister this past weekend. I was struck by the instances when the caped crusader arrived just in time to save someone from catastrophe.
It made me think about the fact that we are all looking for Superman. We desperately crave a hero who will protect us from all danger, who will rescue us from evil and then just fly into the sunset.
The fact of the matter is that many families have their own Superman—a strong and feisty fighter who will do anything he can to keep us out of harm’s way.

We call this protagonist “Father.”
In our modern society, fathers are far too often taken for granted. But they can be the prime determinant of whether a pregnant woman seeks an abortion. If she senses the father of her child will protect and defend their child, she will choose life. If she is uncertain or believes the father will be a no-show or negative influence in her child’s life, she is far more likely to choose abortion.
So, a father’s words matter—greatly. They can be life-giving or death-dealing, depending on the disposition of the dad. Far too often, the father is the forgotten variable in the abortion equation. We need to change that—not only for dads, but for babies and their mothers as well.
If you are a father, consider speaking out on the right to life. Attend local grassroots chapter events. Turn out for your state’s March for Life. Find out about pro-life opportunities at your church.
There are plenty of Supermen in our midst—if only we have eyes to see them.
