Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton warned Democrats that they could face arrest if they flee the state to sabotage a special legislative session where GOP lawmakers will consider adopting a new set of congressional maps that could impact next year’s midterm elections.
If Republicans are to retain control of Congress, something is going to need to be done to head off cheating Democrats at the pass, and a redistricting in Texas could add five seats to the GOP column, according to President Donald J. Trump.
“I think we’ll get five,” Trump told reporters. “And there could be some other states we’re going to get another three, or four, or five in addition. Texas would be the biggest one.”
Last week, Lone Star State Governor Greg Abbott announced that the special session would include redistricting, sending Democrats into a desperate scramble to prevent any changes with Quorum Report, a Texas-based online political newsletter, reporting that House Speaker Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), DNC boss Ken Martin, and former Obama attorney general Eric Holder have encouraged state Democrats to torpedo the session by fleeing to prevent a quorum.

“If Democrats ignore their duty to their constituents by breaking quorum, they should be found and arrested no matter where they go,” Paxton wrote in a Tuesday post to X, putting leftist lawmakers who may be contemplating flying the coop on notice.
“The people of Texas elected them to do a job, not run away and hide like cowards. Lawmakers must answer the special session call and pass the important priorities that the Governor has put forward,” he added. “My office stands ready to assist local, state, and federal authorities in hunting down and compelling the attendance of anyone who abandons their office and their constituents for cheap political theater.”
Texas Democrats pulled a similar stunt in 2021 when they left Austin to block Republican-backed voter reforms, collaborating with lawmakers in Washington, D.C.
Jeffries was joined by impeachment-crazed Rep. Al Green (R-TX), who was escorted out of a joint session of Congress for yelling and menacingly waving his “pimp cane” at the president during his speech earlier this year, accusing Trump, House Speaker Mike Johnson, and “MAGA extremists” of trying to rig the election with the redistricting.
NEW: Hakeem Jeffries says he and House Democrats are fighting for the people of Texas, so upcoming elections won’t be rigged:

It was typically Orwellian rhetoric from the Democrat leader, gaslighting the public that trying to prevent the usual trickery on behalf of his party is “rigging” the election.
“Instead of addressing the serious crisis that has affected tens of thousands of lives in unthinkable ways, Donald Trump, House Republicans here in Washington, and Gov. Abbott are conspiring to rig the Texas congressional map as part of an effort to disenfranchise millions of people in Texas,” the conspiracy-mongering New York City Democrat claimed.
