DALLAS, TX – A statewide manhunt concluded with the arrest of a suspect linked to a violent attack on a police officer. Authorities apprehended Benjamin Hanneel Song, a 32-year-old on the state’s most wanted list, at an apartment complex in north Dallas, more than 50 miles from the initial crime scene.
The search for Song began following a July 4th incident near a detention center in Alvarado, where a coordinated group attack left an officer injured. A blue alert had been in effect for nearly two weeks as officials worked to locate the suspect.
Witnesses in the normally quiet neighborhood described the scene as chaotic, with FBI agents and gunfire disturbing the peace. “It was shocking to see FBI agents in full gear right outside our windows,” said a resident who captured the event on video.
The July 4th attack involved a dozen individuals targeting the Prairieland detention center. According to court documents, the group lured an officer to the facility and opened fire, hitting him in the neck. Fortunately, the officer survived.
Authorities believe Song was responsible for purchasing four firearms used in the assault. He now faces multiple charges, including three counts of attempted murder and discharging a firearm during a violent crime.
During the arrest, Song was accompanied by an accomplice, whose identity remains undisclosed due to sealed federal documents. This development marks the 15th arrest connected to the incident.
In related arrests, John Thomas and Lynette Sharp are accused of aiding Song’s escape. Thomas allegedly facilitated Song’s initial getaway from the detention center, while Sharp is said to have used encrypted communication to coordinate Song’s movements.
The arrests underscore the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies to bring all involved to justice. The investigation continues as authorities work to unravel the full extent of the network behind this brazen attack.
