The government mysteries continue as more files from the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) make their way into the public domain.
Most recently, questions have begun to surface about the newly discovered documents that contradict CIA claims about Lee Harvey Oswald’s ties to some contentious groups.
A July 15 report by The Daily Caller asserts that the agency’s decades-long claim that they were not aware of President John F. Kennedy’s assassin’s ties to Cuban dissident groups.
According to the most recent information, a CIA officer based in Miami in 1963, George Joannides, was sending financial aid to Cuban students who opposed Fidel Castro.
More information
Joannides was under cover and assigned to handle the anti-Castro propaganda campaign and even break up any pro-Castro groups.
This was despite the fact that the CIA’s mission statement and/or allocation of government funds do not include any permission or directive to engage in domestic operations.
That didn’t stop the CIA-backed group known as the DRE from physically clashing with Oswald just months before the JFK assassination.
At the time, a member said that Oswald allegedly offered his help to work as a mole within a pro-Castro group, the Fair Play for Cuba Committee.
Deny, deny, deny
The CIA has insisted for decades that they didn’t know anything about the involvement of Oswald with the pro-Cuba organizations, however, doubling down on their lack of negligence.
Since this month’s document declassification, the agency has been suspiciously quiet about its alleged involvement.
Included in those documents was proof that Joannides had a fake D.C. driver’s license with the name “Howard Mark Gebler”:
According to Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL), “This confirms much of what the public already speculated: that the CIA was lying to the American people, and that there was a cover-up.”
House work
However, they might not be able to maintain that posture for long if the Republican-run House of Representatives has its way and can dig deep into the issue.
The House Oversight Committee created a unique task force to find out some previously unknown “federal secrets” that built on executive orders by the president during both administrations.
The orders required the release of the assassination files by government agencies. These came after they held hearings about the assassination this spring.

I told Post editors in 1999 that Joannides was a front page story. They disagreed.
