A suspect has been arrested in connection to the fatal shooting of “American Idol” music supervisor Robin Kaye and her husband, Thomas DeLuca. The couple was found dead Monday, July 14, in their multimillion-dollar home in the Encino neighborhood of Los Angeles.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), 22-year-old Raymond Boodarian was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon. Authorities say the Encino resident does not have a criminal record. TMZ reports Boodarian’s home is a 10-minute drive from Kaye’s home.
Prior warning signs and a past burglary report
The LAPD says officers were called to the scene for a welfare check Monday. Friends and family had not heard from the couple in several days. Both Kaye and DeLuca were discovered with gunshot wounds to the head.
Investigators revealed that police received two separate calls reporting a possible burglary at the home on July 10. One caller reportedly had seen someone hop the fence, according to The Wrap.
Police did not enter the property at the time because it was described as “highly fortified.” A flyover was conducted, but there were no visible signs of trouble, according to CBS News.
An LAPD press release added that the burglar is believed to have entered through an unlocked door, and there were no signs of forced entry. A confrontation reportedly occurred before the suspect fled on foot.
Security concerns raised before deaths
NBC Los Angeles reported that weeks before the shooting, Kaye reached out to a private security firm for help.
“She felt threatened by somebody because of someone around their home or around their neighborhood who felt suspicious,” Kris Herzog, owner of The Bodyguard Group of Beverly Hills, said.
Neighbors told NBC they did not hear anything the night of the crime. One neighbor, Amee Faggen, said her renter called 911 after seeing someone hop the fence days earlier, but nothing else had happened since.
“We have no idea if it’s even related or not,” Faggen said.
Authorities say there’s no indication Boodarian is part of a larger burglary ring.
Tribute to a beloved supervisor
In a statement to ABC7, American Idol said:
“Robin has been a cornerstone of the ‘Idol’ family since 2009 and was truly loved and respected by all who came in contact with her. Robin will remain in our hearts forever and we share our deepest sympathy with her family and friends during this difficult time.”
