An investigation is underway in Iowa after an 18-month-old reportedly died in a vehicle this month.
KCCI reported that West Des Moines police were called on July 2 about an unresponsive toddler in a car parked across the street from a medical center. The toddler, who was later pronounced dead, has not been publicly identified.
Police described the incident as isolated. No charges have been filed.
If confirmed, the 18-month-old would be the 16th child to die in a hot car this year. According to No Heat Stroke, 39 children died in hot cars in 2024.
