In the past five years, I’ve published 700 articles and two books, for a total of 1 million words.
By my count, I’ve only missed publishing a weekly original Medium+Substack article three or four times in the past 250 weeks, and this is one of those weeks!
Because, quietly, for the past five years, I’ve been studying Christian economics. For the past year, I’ve been writing a video course which I’ll eventually turn into a book. It’s currently around 72,000 words, which breaks down to roughly eight 30-minute videos.
Michelle and I started yesterday with high hopes of filming the Christian economics course.
We’d spent three hours getting the studio set up, audio testing, teleprompter, white balance, all of it.
We were about a minute away from rolling film, and bam… the lighting kit blows.
$300 and two days of shooting toasted.
Then, a few hours later, an upstairs pipe starts pouring water through the light fixture in the living room ceiling.
It knocks out power to the dining room we were going to shoot in.
(Plus the power in the living room and the kitchen.)
Now we have to get our living room ceiling ripped out, fix the pipe, fix the electrics.
Cost unknown, but expensive.
The devil is so spiteful!!
Michelle and I independently started defiantly singing songs about our faith in Jesus to overcome. 😂😂
Michelle woke up this morning with an impression from God, “This is MY house, and I will provide what you need to take care of what I own.”
But we are also discouraged, and not only by the unforeseen expense.
We were already on a massive ticking clock- we need to get the course shot this week before my parents arrive on Monday, and then get it edited before Michelle’s maternity leave finishes on August 25th. (Because Concord’s forest nursery is unexpectantly shutting down and we’re back to FT homecare, meaning the course will never get done.)
But we won’t be able to shoot when the repairmen are working (or shower until the leak is fixed… not a great look on camera!)
And we were already trying to film around a toddler and baby schedule.
Never a dull moment. 🙂
This is the biggest project we’ve ever worked on, with the most passion and calling and gravity and possible impact, so we would love prayer that we can get the filming done and there’s no more interference with this mission.
Thanks for your prayers this week, especially. 🤝
In the meantime, I have two things for you:
1.) Michelle, my wife, recently published a beautiful article entitled Saying Goodbye to a Childhood Home.
2.) Dave McSporran, one of my best friends in the whole wide world, has just launched a new ministry called The Battle-Ready Body.
Earlier this year, I published a book called A Devil Named Lucifer to introduce people to the dark side of the spiritual work… but Dave is on the front lines when it comes to demonic deliverance.
“You were never meant to live passive or powerless. Jesus gave you authority over darkness—and it’s time to use it. This channel is for believers who are ready to go deeper into spiritual warfare, learn how to tread on serpents, plunder the enemy’s camp, and rob hell of what belongs to heaven. We follow the example of Jesus, His disciples, and the early church—not just in theory, but in practice:
🔥 Learn to recognize spiritual attacks
⚔️ Discover how to walk in your authority in Christ
🛡️ Get trained to fight—and win—spiritual battles
🗝️ Break free from bondage and help others do the sameThis is your call to arms.”
No one my age (besides Michelle) has made a greater impact on me than Dave, and I have no doubt his ministry is going to make a major, deep, and wide impact. So, watch his first video, be sure to subscribe, and share his work with others.
Hopefully see you next week… unless the roof caves in!
Much love,
Jared Brock
