I have no problem with cleaning up blind trusts but I have a problem when the person advocating that is refusing to advocate to stop MP’s from sitting in Parliament after having been found guilty of breaking our laws.
This is place the leader of the Conservative Party of Canada finds himself in his latest pronouncements. I actually wrote Poilievre asking him to propose changes to stop law breaking MP’s from being allowed to sit in Parliament . Never got an answer.
The Canadian Press carries this headline:
“Poilievre wants Carney to cash out blind trust, says ethics screens insufficient”
The article goes on to say
“Poilievre said the Conservatives would propose amendments to the law that would force the sale of assets in the way he’s suggesting for Carney, raising the bar for ethics disclosures to avoid conflicts.”
Now if Poilievre would only also propose an amendment to the Conflict of Interest Act so that MP ‘s who break the law cannot serve in the Parliament one might consider that the Leader was serious and had some principles not just playing politics in his upcoming by election —having to flee from Ontario to Alberts to try and salvage a seat in the Parliament. He actually says he lost his Ontario seat because he told the truth. One wonders what he would say was the reason he had won the seat in earlier elections?
