Speaker of the House Mike Johnson and allied groups have already raised tens of millions of dollars to help defend the Republican House majority in 2026.
In the first six months of 2025, the Congressional Leadership Fund (CLF), a campaign super PAC that supports GOP House candidates, raised $32.7 million.
The American Action Network (AAN), a nonprofit advocacy group that is a sister organization to the CLF, additionally raised $28 million. Both entities reach voters in contested districts through advertisements, calls, and campaigns.Â
The fundraising will be vital for Republicans as they attempt to hang on to their razor-thin House majority during the midterm elections, which tend to favor the party not in the White House.
For its part, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is already running ads against swing district GOP incumbents, such as Rep. Derrick Van Orden of Wisconsin and Rob Bresnahan of Pennsylvania, accusing them of attacking rural hospitals with the recently enacted Republican budget reconciliation bill’s restructuring of Medicaid.
Johnson, R-La., himself has also played a major role in the push to counter Democrats’ attempts to flip the House in 2026, as he announced in June his Grow the Majority joint fundraising committee gave out $17.5 million to House candidates in the second quarter of 2025.Â
The speaker gave $6.5 million at a June event at Washington’s Capitol Hill Club to GOP incumbents in swing districts.Â
With billionaire industrialist Elon Musk’s recent talk of cutting back on campaign contributions or even supporting challengers against Republicans, party leaders see it as more important than ever for House GOP members to fill up their campaign coffers. Musk spent more than $200 million to support President Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign.
Meanwhile, House Majority PAC and House Majority Forward, liberal organizations comparable to the CLF and AAN, raised a combined $40 million in the first six months of 2025 to support Democrat candidates and causes.
