For Joe Biden, a ten minute interview over the phone may as well be a 100 minute interview.
It is beyond painfully obvious that old Joe’s physical health and mental health are in serious decline. However, the cover-up of that decline is the single biggest political scandal of the modern presidential era. Democrats and the media (but I repeat myself) hoped that by confessing that they were all duped, this would all be put behind them in time to mount a credible campaign for 2028. They still might succeed in that attempt, but people want answers about the “Politburo” who managed Biden and were running the White House in his name.
To that end, the New York Times actually got Grandpa Joe on the phone to discuss his White House’s use of the autopen. No one denies that an autopen was used, or that using the autopen in and of itself was illegal. The question is, who controlled that autopen, especially when it came to signing pardons and clemency paperwork? Over the phone, Biden insists that he approved everything. The Times published verbatim excerpts of their ten minute conversation with him.
Mr. Biden granted large batch commutations to reduce the sentences of three categories of federal convicts: shielding about 1,500 people who had been serving home confinement since the pandemic from being forced back to prison; reducing the sentences of about 2,500 nonviolent drug offenders to what they would have received under current policies; and turning the sentences of 37 of the 40 inmates on death row into life without parole.
On who made the clemency decisions
I made every single one of those. And — including the categories, when we set this up to begin with. And so — but I understand why Trump would think that, because obviously, I guess, he doesn’t focus much. Anyway, so — yes, I made every decision.
On why an autopen was used to sign the warrants
Because there were a lot of them.
On the use of the autopen
The autopen is, you know, is legal. As you know, other presidents used it, including Trump. But the point is that, you know, we’re talking about a whole lot of people.
On Trump and other Republicans saying Biden was incapacitated and his aides abused the autopen
They’re liars. They know it. They know, for certain. I mean, this is — look, what they, they’ve had a pretty good thing going here. They’ve done so badly. They’ve lied so consistently about almost everything they’re doing. The best thing they can do is try to change the focus and focus on something else. And this is a — I think that’s what this is about.
It’s — you know — it’s consistent with Trump’s game plan all along. I mean, if I — I don’t expect you to answer any questions — but if I told you three years ago, we’d have a president doing this, I think you’d look at me in the eye and say, “What, are you, crazy?”
As we all know from the research that was done, one murderer and other violent offenders DID make it into the batches of commutations, because with these large lists, people were added that should not have been, and did not fit Biden’s stated criteria. If he is now insisting that he “made every decision,” then he screwed up and failed.
As for the pre-emptive pardons that he handed out to his family, Biden insists that it was done because “Orange Man Bad” – he was convinced that Trump would use the presidency to go after people. You know, like Biden did to Trump.
On granting pre-emptive pardons to family
In terms of my fam — he — go after me through my family. I know how vindictive he is. I mean, everybody knows how vindictive he is. So we knew that they’d do what they’re doing now. [laughs]
And my family didn’t do anything wrong. My sister, my brother-in-law, my — my brother, etc. And — and all it would do is, if they, if he went after them, would be, is run up legal bills. I just, I just know how he operates. And so I made — but I consciously made all those decisions, among others.
And as for the mass commutation of federal death row inmates – all except Tree of Life synagogue mass murderer Robert Bowers, Mother Emanuel AME Church mass murderer Dylann Roof, and Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev – Biden confirmed what we already knew: he wanted to clean out death row, but knew those three would be political Kryptonite.
On why he did not commute the sentences of three death-row inmates to life without parole when he did so for the other 37
Those three, because they became — they were involved in what were major, major issues relating to terrorism and crimes that were — had national implications. One — for example, I was deeply involved in the one having to do with the church and I was down there.
It just seemed to me that it was going to be — it was just a bridge too far. And so that’s why I didn’t pardon those three, because they had a national implication that stood for things beyond the crime they committed. It was a reflection of what they did to the entire nation and the community.
And so, that’s what I withheld them. I spoke to the pope about this, by the way. I was — I had a discussion about — he called me to congratulate me on keeping my word about not supporting the death penalty.
But I told him I couldn’t do the last three. And, that’s, that, that’s the reason because it’s sort of like, you know, the guy who, — you know, I’m making this up — assassinates Abraham Lincoln. You don’t, you, you know, you can’t pardon him because there’s such a, such a gigantic implication for things that go well beyond that individual murder. That was my decision, anyway. Some thought I should have, but I decided not to do those three.
It’s impossible to read the questions and answers from this NYT transcript and not assume that Biden and his team knew what questions were coming, and that the former president had crib notes to help him answer these questions. Did he have Jill or some aides standing over him, making sure he stuck to the notes as closely as possible? And you can tell that Biden didn’t stick to the notes (invoking a possible pardon for John Wilkes Booth, what??), and that his current inner circle has zero interest in exposing him to anything longer than a ten minute phone call.
Except the NYT has more details than what Biden and his handlers were willing to confirm in that phone interview. Brace yourselves, the Times is committing a small journalism again.
On Oct. 30, 2024, the emails reviewed by The Times show, Mr. Biden’s White House counsel, Ed Siskel, notified senior staff to expect a flood of lobbying for clemency grants at the administration’s end and laid out a process for an orderly review.
The final step, he wrote: “The president makes the final decision on the final pardon and/or commutation slate.”
Over the next three months, Mr. Biden made four major sets of clemency actions that were recorded with an autopen. The emails reviewed by The Times included discussions about all four batches.
The emails reflect White House activity surrounding each of those tranches, including the dates of the meetings at which White House officials indicate Mr. Biden made decisions and the names of the senior aides in attendance.
They also show that use of the autopen was managed by Mr. Biden’s White House staff secretary, Ms. (Stefanie) Feldman. She wanted to receive written accounts confirming Mr. Biden’s oral instructions in the meetings before having it used to produce the warrants recording the clemency actions, the emails show.
The aides referred to those written accounts of meetings at which Mr. Biden delivered oral decisions as “blurbs.” The accounts were drafted by aides to the senior advisers who had participated in the key meetings — like Mr. Biden’s chief of staff, Jeffrey D. Zients, and Mr. Siskel.
The assistants who drafted the blurbs were not themselves in the room with Mr. Biden, according to the lists of meeting participants. The emails imply that Mr. Siskel and Mr. Zients relayed what Mr. Biden had said to the assistants, who then documented it.
The assistants circulated the drafts to Mr. Siskel, Mr. Zients and other meeting participants before sending the final versions to Ms. Feldman, again copying the meeting participants.
So, the “Politburo” wrote out these “blurbs” of what Biden supposedly said during these meetings, which the staff secretary wanted in writing (so when she used the autopen, her ass was covered). But these “blurbs” were written by people who claimed that “Biden said this.” Um, I just have to ask… WHAT IF THEY WERE LYING.
The emails also show that when the White House was preparing to announce clemency grants, communications staff drafted statements explaining the decisions. Mr. Biden had to be shown the drafts, and they could not be released until an aide said he had approved them. On at least one occasion, wording was tweaked because of what an email said was feedback from Mr. Biden.
Mr. Biden did not individually approve each name for the categorical pardons that applied to large numbers of people, he and aides confirmed. Rather, after extensive discussion of different possible criteria, he signed off on the standards he wanted to be used to determine which convicts would qualify for a reduction in sentence.
Even after Mr. Biden made that decision, one former aide said, the Bureau of Prisons kept providing additional information about specific inmates, resulting in small changes to the list. Rather than ask Mr. Biden to keep signing revised versions, his staff waited and then ran the final version through the autopen, which they saw as a routine procedure, the aide said.
That’s not “I made every decision,” Joe. That’s not even close. That’s how murderers and violent offenders end up on these lists, because they became giant catch-alls with not enough scrutiny. It was a pardon party, and Biden may have looked over the drafts, but he admitted there were SO MANY NAMES so the autopen was used. Well, it turns out the autopen was used because if Joe Biden had had to sign off on each and every name, and review each commutation, he would still be at the fake Oval Office set, signing away. He had no idea what was being done in his name. The best-case scenario is that he allowed trusted aides to make the lists, and he was negligent in signing off on who was on the receiving end of his clemency. The worst? His aides took over, and Biden was too far gone to care much anymore.
So we’ve learned tonight that the president United States with the sole power to issue pardons didn’t actually pardon the people and it was a group of advisors in an autopen and in some cases the president wasn’t even there.
And this somehow is not worthy of demanding open…

And it wasn’t just one staff secretary who had access to the autopen during the course of the Biden administration. Neera Tanden confirmed that she used it as well, with no proof that the person authorizing its use was actually Joe Biden.
Tanden reportedly testified that to get approval for the use of autopen signatures she would send decision memos to members of Biden’s inner circle. However, she added that she was not aware of what actions or approvals took place between the time she sent the decision memo and the time she received it back with the necessary approval, according to the source familiar.
“Ms. Tanden testified that she had minimal interaction with President Biden, despite wielding tremendous authority,” remarked House Oversight Chairman James Comer. “She explained that to obtain approval for autopen signatures, she would send decision memos to members of the President’s inner circle and had no visibility of what occurred between sending the memo and receiving it back with approval. Her testimony raises serious questions about who was really calling the shots in the Biden White House amid the President’s obvious decline. We will continue to pursue the truth for the American people.”
Per an Oversight Committee staffer in the minority, the characterization that Tanden testified she was in the dark when it came to who was giving final approval for the autopen is “a lie,” noting in a statement sent to Fox News Digital a day after Tanden’s testimony that the former White House staffer received “written sign off [from Biden] on every executive action she presented him with.”
Uh, if Biden was able to do a “written sign off” on “every executive action,” then why was the autopen even being used???
It’s also worth noting that the ONE pardon which got a “wet” signature – not one via the autopen – was poor precious widdle Hunter.
It speaks volumes that the only pardon Biden signed personally was Hunter’s. They knew the autopen was legally shaky so they made sure the one that mattered most was airtight. pic.twitter.com/mg9HQvKO4y

Between this, and the fact that Biden’s White House physician, Dr. Kevin O’Connor, decided to invoke his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination rather than answer questions from the House Oversight Committee regarding non-medical questions (ones that would not require HIPAA violations, although the subpoena he received would authorize such disclosures), the stench of a cover-up is still running strong. A ten minute phone interview is not going to clean up Joe Biden’s messes. Neither will news articles or books. This should get Watergate-level congressional hearings, preferably before Joe dies of cancer. Not that the Democrats care about that – they would prefer that Joe Biden is completely out of the picture before 2028, so that they can pull a Hillary Clinton and ask “what difference does it make?” after he is dead. Which means that Republicans, having passed the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” ought to focus on digging deep into the pile of manure that the Biden administration spread around to hide the old man’s senility.
