At least 9 people were killed and 30 others hospitalized after a devastating fire tore through Gabriel House, an assisted living facility in Fall River, Massachusetts, on Sunday, July 14. Firefighters, police, and EMS rushed to the scene in a full-scale rescue operation as flames and heavy smoke engulfed the building. Many residents were immobile, on oxygen, or in wheelchairs, making evacuations difficult. Governor Maura Healey visited the site the next morning to survey the damage and praise first responders. The investigation is ongoing.
