U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) branded President Donald J. Trump as a “rapist” in a defamatory social media post in which she shared her take on the Jeffrey Epstein files.
Trump’s Justice Department is at the center of a firestorm after it concluded that the notorious sex trafficker did not have a “client list” nor was there any “credible evidence” that Epstein was using sexually compromising videos to blackmail powerful people of influence. It was also determined that there was nothing sinister about Epstein’s death inside a high-security federal prison cell in 2019.
“Wow who would have thought that electing a rapist would have complicated the release of the Epstein Files?” AOC wrote in a Friday post to X, another Democrat who couldn’t care less about Epstein until they saw the files controversy as a way to own Trump.
Wow who would have thought that electing a rapist would have complicated the release of the Epstein Files?

The Democrat diva’s post drew a strong backlash, and some pointed out that a similarly defamatory falsehood cost ABC and star anchor George Stephanopoulos dearly after he claimed that Trump had been “found liable for rape” and was sued for the statement.

If Trump is a rapist, then surely he was convicted of rape in a criminal court and you have evidence of that conviction right?
If not, then this is defamation, and the ABC case that resulted in a $15M payment to Trump is precedent that puts you in legal jeopardy.

Wow, this stupid bimbo actually tweeted this defamatory tweet from her personal account.
That’s one good argument against any defense of government immunity.
I hope you get sued into bankruptcy, Alexandria!
Sue her @realDonaldTrump! pic.twitter.com/Io3475jXCG

I hope Trump sues you!! You don’t learn a thing from George Stephanopoulos.. this defamation

Has anyone ever seen a 15 million dollar Tweet? AOC just cost herself 15 million by repeating the infamous ABC lie. https://t.co/cDBTBbj8IC

Hey @POTUS here’s another layup defamation win for you

Should Trump send your defamation subpoena to the Bronx or Yorktown Heights?

Others remarked on the hypocrisy of AOC and her fellow Democrats over their sudden interest in the Epstein case.
You’ve been in office for over 6 years, and neither you, nor anyone in your party, ever called for Epstein information, until this week.
In fact you all said it was a conspiracy theory.
— Clandestine (@WarClandestine) July 11, 2025
Man you haven’t said anything about the Epstein Files before.
— Political Maverick (@PoliticalMav) July 11, 2025
You had four years to release them. What happened? https://t.co/6W5zqjQiQ5

In December 2024, ABC News agreed to pay a $15 million settlement over Stephanopoulos’ errant tongue in the form of a “charitable contribution” to Trump’s yet-to-be-built presidential museum/foundation as well as an additional $1 million in legal fees.
Whether Ocasio-Cortez will similarly be held accountable for her lie remains to be seen.
