This newsletter cast a stern eye on the Biden administration’s lackadaisical attitude towards counterintelligence. Never taken seriously during Obama’s two terms in the White House, basic vetting for senior positions went off the cliff during Joe Biden’s presidency. Top jobs involving national security went to people with dubious links to terrorist groups, while several senior Bidenistas possessed troubling ties to Iran, including those charged with crafting policies towards the mullah regime.
None of this met even basic counterintelligence standards and under Obama and Biden alike, America’s enemies gained a foothold in the highest realms of our government. However, nothing has improved with Donald Trump’s return to the Oval Office, and these new controversies deserve an airing, so let’s start with a shocking failure of security vetting right inside the White House.
You’ve probably never heard of Sergio Gor, which means you’re a normal person who isn’t obsessively following inside-the-Beltway gossip. But he holds one of the most important jobs in Washington, DC, as director of the White House Office of Presidential Personnel. Late last year, as Team Trump was transitioning into the second term, the Washington Post published a profile of Gor, whom it termed “the most powerful man you’ve never heard of.”
