A 17-year-old Georgia teenager charged with murdering her mother and stepfather delivered an emotional eulogy at their funeral service, chilling footage reveals as authorities describe the speech as part of “mountains of evidence” against her.
Sarah Grace Patrick was arrested and charged with murder on Tuesday, months after Kristin Brock, 41, and her husband James, 45, were discovered with fatal gunshot wounds at their Carrollton home on Feb. 20.
The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the high school student surrendered to police this week after a warrant was issued for her arrest.
Patrick, who was 16 at the time of the alleged killings, faces two counts of murder and two counts of aggravated assault.
She has been charged as an adult in the case that has shocked the community 45 miles west of Atlanta.
Authorities indicated that extensive physical and digital evidence led to Patrick’s arrest, including her emotional speech at her parents’ funeral service.
The teenager’s apparent grief-stricken tribute has now been revealed, with relatives of the victims sharing the footage following her arrest.
Social media posts have resurfaced showing the teenager allegedly attempted to cover up her crimes by sharing her grief in TikTok videos and even appealing to true crime enthusiasts online for assistance in solving the case.
James Brock’s niece, Krysten Dowda, expressed her lack of surprise at Patrick’s arrest, stating she “fake cried at the funeral.”
Dowda explained that suspicions arose when Patrick began sharing details about the incident on social media platforms.
The red-haired teenager reportedly told a friend of the Brocks that she heard nothing unusual the night of the murders except for the alarm from her stepfather’s heart machine, which would have been triggered by his death.
Dowda questioned how Patrick could not hear multiple gunshots in a small house.
The 34-year-old married mother-of-two from Austell, Georgia, became suspicious of Patrick “after the shock wore off,” noting that “the pieces just weren’t making sense.”
She preserved footage of the teen’s eulogy, anticipating its eventual significance.
Dowda explained her reaction to Patrick’s performance, stating she was “so mad, I didn’t really even acknowledge her after just watching her fake cry in front of everyone. I left the funeral immediately after.”
She emphasized her motivation for speaking publicly about the case, saying she wanted to counter those who might view Patrick sympathetically.
The niece stressed that “people want to bully us [saying] she’s ‘just a little girl’ and I want to make clear a monster can be a little girl in a dress.”
This statement reflected the family’s frustration with public perception and their desire to see justice served regardless of the defendant’s age.
During the March 8 afternoon service at Catalyst church in Carrollton, where the Brocks were active members, Patrick delivered her tribute.
Dressed in a pale blue mini dress, she approached the lectern positioned yards from a large photograph of her mother and stepfather.
Patrick introduced herself to the congregation, saying “For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Sarah, and I am Kristen Brock’s daughter and James Brock’s stepdaughter.”
Her voice appeared to crack with emotion as she acknowledged the difficulty of the moment.
She addressed her deceased parents directly, expressing her shock at their absence and her newfound understanding of how much she needed them.
Patrick delivered glowing tributes to both her mother and stepfather, thanking Brock “for all the life lessons you taught me” and praising her mother as a “beautiful kind soul with so much gratitude.”
Referencing her stepfather’s congestive heart failure, Patrick stated “Your heart will be finally healed in heaven and none of y’all will be in any pain anymore.”
She added that while this gave her comfort, “your life was not supposed to end there.”
Patrick read from a May 2018 letter her mother had written to Brock, which she claimed made her cry upon first reading and gave her “chilled bones.”
She told the congregation “Every single time I read it, it puts me at a lot of peace. So I thought I’d share it.”
The teenager proceeded to read her mother’s letter, which included biblical references and inspirational messages.
She recited “Deuteronomy 6:5 Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your strength.”
Patrick made what appeared to be garbled references to finding peace before continuing with her mother’s words.
She read additional passages from the letter, including “You can’t always choose the music that life plays…but you can choose how to dance to it. She was always dancing to her own beat, LOL.”
Patrick’s mother had written about life’s challenges, stating “Eventually all the pieces fall into place, but until then, laugh at the confusion, live for the moment and know that everything happens for a reason.”
The letter concluded with philosophical reflections about choice and resilience.
Patrick read “I can choose to let it define me, confine me, outshine or I can choose to move on and leave it behind me. Always, Kristen Brock.”
These words would later take on a haunting significance given the circumstances.
In what appeared to be a patronizing aside, Patrick commented “and keep in mind she wrote that herself” before laughing at her own remark.
She continued reading her mother’s hopeful words about letting experiences define or confine a person versus choosing to move forward.
The teenager concluded her eulogy by urging mourners to remember her mother and stepfather “for who they were and not what happened to them and be happy for the time we got to spend together and not be sad about the time that we don’t.”
Her voice appeared to wobble with emotion as she spoke about her relationship with her parents.
Patrick made references to celestial imagery, saying “I may always and will always be her sunshine and she will always be my star from up above.”
“I know at nighttime I can go and look at momma and Jamey in the sky, and gladly they will save me a seat in heaven like they saved a seat for me in this very church.”
She attempted to offer comfort to the grieving congregation, stating “Although there’s nothing we can do to bring them back, we still have control over how we treat people with us today.”
Patrick urged listeners to value their relationships, saying “When someone tries to tell you anything, no matter how unimportant it could be, just listen because you never know when it’s somebody’s time to go.”
Her message took on a particularly poignant tone as she described the sudden nature of loss, telling mourners “You can say goodnight and wake up a few hours just to find out they aren’t there, despite their joy and their love. So just listen and never take a hug or anyone or anything for granted.”
Patrick thanked her extended family during the eulogy, including her grandparents and a long list of siblings, for “helping me get through my worst nightmare” and “making such a big difference.”
She concluded by saying “Jamey and all would thank you too. I love you guys and so did they, I’m sorry.”
Dowda recalled Patrick’s behavior at the funeral, noting that the teenager, whom she had previously known as “very sweet, soft spoken and polite,” approached her to say “she was sorry I lost Jamey.” However, Dowda’s perception of Patrick had changed dramatically by that point.
Patrick’s father, Doniel Patrick, who accompanied her when she surrendered to police, defended his daughter on Facebook.
He wrote “I’ll always be in your corner” and encouraged her never to doubt her place in the world.
His post added “Never dobt your place in this world. You were sent here with purpose, wrapped in grace and born to shine in ways only your soul knows how.”
Multiple social media true crime groups have emerged since Patrick’s arrest, with speculation running rampant about why the teenager would allegedly kill her mother and stepfather.
The online discussion has intensified as amateur investigators attempt to piece together the events leading to the tragic deaths.
Dowda dismissed rumors about potential abuse, firmly stating that James Brock was not abusive and that Patrick was “the only monster in this scenario.”
She emphasized her uncle’s character, saying “Absolutely hell no, do I believe there was any abuse. His kids were his life. His step kids just the same as his blood.”
Brock had three adult sons from previous relationships, while Kristin had Patrick and a son from her prior relationship.
The couple shared one child together, six-year-old Jaley, who discovered her parents’ bodies and alerted Patrick before calling 911.
Social media posts revealed Brock’s affection for both his biological daughter and stepdaughter.
He shared photos of Patrick at school in June 2024, writing “She’s all grown up, love u Sarah” and posted images of both girls on National Daughter’s Day.
In another post that same month, he shared content reading “Not to toot my own horn but my daughter is gorgeous” and added “Both of em Sarah Grace and Jaley Anne.”
Dowda described her close relationship with her uncle, explaining they grew up together in the same house and lived together as adults briefly.
She characterized James Brock as “so sweet, so kind and hilarious” with a “larger-than-life personality.” She noted that “He was never like an uncle, he was always a best friend.”
The niece shared photographs with her uncle, including images from her 2009 graduation and him cradling her first child, Braxton, on the day he was born, October 1, 2011.
These personal memories highlighted the family’s shock at the accusations against Patrick.
Following the arrest announcement, Dowda posted a message expressing her anger at having witnessed Patrick’s funeral performance.
She wrote “I sat front row at their funerals as this little b***h stood up in front of everyone and faked cried about how much she missed Jamey and Kristen.”
“So now everyone can get a front row seat to her mugshot for MURDERING her own mother and stepfather. I saw right through you. Enjoy prison!”
Carroll County communications director Ashley Hulsey led the police press conference, emphasizing that “mountains of evidence have gotten us here today.”
She indicated that the pursuit of justice continues and that additional arrests and charges remain possible as the investigation proceeds.
The Daily Mail highlighted that authorities have not yet determined a motive for the alleged killings, and it remains unclear whether other family members were involved.
Hulsey noted the difficulty of understanding what motivates a child to harm their parents, describing Patrick as having lived with various family members and moved frequently.
The crime scene showed no signs of forced entry, and nothing had been stolen from the home.
Patrick was living with her mother and stepfather at the time of the killings but has since resided with other relatives, according to authorities.
Hulsey identified the six-year-old daughter who discovered her parents as “probably the saddest victim in all of this,” noting that a mother and stepfather would never be able to raise their children.
Police continue investigating the case, with the possibility of additional arrests remaining open.
