Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is no stranger to the limelight or to controversy, but this week, things got personal for the state AG running for the United States Senate.
Not only did Paxton’s life, Angela Paxton announced that she was divorcing the attorney general, she said specifically that she was ending the 38 year marriage on “Biblical grounds,” as the Daily Mail reported.
While there are a few debates about what the Bible sanctions as grounds for divorce the most widely agreed upon implication would be that there was infidelity, or possibly physical abuse.
To make things more complicated, Ken Paxton is currently engaged in a hotly contested Senate competition, attempting to unseat Texas’ senior senator, Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas).
From The Wife
Angela Paxton, who is herself a state senator, took to social media to publicly announce the uncoupling for the well-known politicians, saying that the announcement was due to “recent discoveries.”
“Today, after 38 years of marriage, I filed for divorce on Biblical grounds,” she wrote on X.
“I believe marriage is a sacred covenant and I have earnestly pursued reconciliation. But in light of recent discoveries, I do not believe that it honors God or is loving to myself, my children, or Ken to remain in the marriage.”

From Ken
For his part, the attorney general took a much more diplomatic approach to dealing with the divorce, attributing the split to “pressure,” and saying he was “proud” of his family and soon-to-be-ex-wife.
“After facing the pressures of countless political attacks and public scrutiny, Angela and I have decided to start a new chapter in our lives,” Ken Paxton said on social media.
“I could not be any more proud or grateful for the incredible family that God has blessed us with, and I remain committed to supporting our amazing children and grandchildren. I ask for your prayers and privacy at this time.”
Past Paxton Problems
While the impact on his political career is likely not ideal, it wouldn’t be the first time Paxton has found himself in hot water.
It wasn’t so long ago that the attorney general was impeached by the Republican-controlled Texas House of Representatives.
He was eventually acquitted by the state Senate in 2023, but he has also been accused of an extramarital affair, as well as primary allegations involved in the trial.
Paxton was also indicted in 2015 for securities fraud charges, but made a deal with prosecutors last year to have the charges dropped.
