SEATTLE, WA – Two teenagers are facing attempted murder charges following a brutal attack on a 17-year-old girl in West Seattle. The assault occurred on July 5 at the home of the victim’s grandfather.
A judge has deemed both suspects, one of whom is just 15, as potential threats to the community. The victim’s sister, Jasmine Goodwin, shared how her sister is finding strength during her recovery by looking back at family memories.
The victim suffered severe injuries, including a nearly immobile face after being stabbed through the cheek. The suspects, both teens, appeared in juvenile court and are now confronting significant legal repercussions.
The attack took place in the Delridge neighborhood, where the victim had recently moved to care for her 83-year-old grandfather. She met the suspects at a career training program and had invited them over.
The evening of the attack, the suspects allegedly entered through a back door, locking it behind them. A confrontation ensued, and the victim was stabbed multiple times, leaving her with wounds on her face, neck, and body.
Miraculously, she managed to escape and secure the door, but quickly collapsed due to blood loss. Her grandfather, limited by recent surgeries, could only shout for help, which may have scared the attackers away. His quick call to 911 likely saved her life.
The victim remains hospitalized, with her grandfather’s home still bearing the marks of the violence. Goodwin has initiated a fundraiser to help clean the residence, aiming to alleviate the trauma for her grandfather.
As the suspects await further legal proceedings, Goodwin is concerned about her sister’s future, both physically and emotionally. Questions linger about her ability to heal and trust again.
The suspects were apprehended in Snohomish County and are being held as the judicial process unfolds. There is potential for additional charges, and the female suspect may be tried as an adult due to the crime’s severity.
