Former Democrat presidential candidate and Secretary of State John Kerry said President Donald Trump “was right” about the migrant crisis at the southern border under former President Joe Biden.
Kerry told the BBC in a Thursday interview that he tried to convince Biden that immigration and the U.S.-Mexico border needed to be addressed.
“I said this very directly to President Biden, that I think the Democrats missed on the issue of immigration for some years,” Kerry told BBC special correspondent James Naughtie. “They just allowed the border to continue to be sieged.”
Kerry added that “without a border protected, you don’t have a nation.”
“I wish President Biden had been heard more often saying, ‘I’m going to enforce the law,’” said the former Massachusetts U.S. senator and 2004 Democrat presidential nominee.
When told Trump would claim he was right about the migrant issue, Kerry admitted, “He was right. The problem is we all should have been right. Everybody should have been right, doing the same thing, all moving in the same direction.”
