You would think that Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the progressive left’s champion, would have been throwing herself in front of cameras to loudly protest that ICE and other law enforcement has shown up in her congressional district to make arrests.
But no. It seems all that can be heard from AOC and her office are crickets. But wait, you say. AOC has been busy telling everyone who would listen that passing the “One Big Beautiful Bill” would mean ICE would run roughshod over the entire country, snatching up illegal aliens wherever they were, and calling them “criminals” as well.
She bemoaned what the OBBB would do on Bluesky, as well, where the loyal echo chamber would hear her. (Oddly, she didn’t bother posting this on either of her X accounts.)
She’s been fundraising off the actions of ICE as well. So, if “people are disappearing,” and ICE just made arrests in her own congressional district, then you would think that AOC would be marching with bullhorn in hand, demanding the release of these illegals who were just taken away.
I wonder why AOC is being so quiet about this?
Several members of a violent migrant gang accused of “unleashing terror” to maintain control of a notorious crime strip represented by progressive Democratic Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Grace Meng have been taken down by police in a major bust.
Eight members of the ruthless 18th Street transnational gang are accused of carrying out several brutal beatings and stabbings to maintain their dominance of the Roosevelt Avenue commercial corridor in Queens. They also distributed fake passports and counterfeit currency, dealt drugs and trafficked firearms while extorting businesses for rent payments, prosecutors said.
Seven of the eight gangbangers are in the country illegally, a spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney’s Office told Fox News Digital. They are all members and associates of the 18th Street gang, which was formed by Mexican immigrants in Los Angeles in the 1960s and today has members throughout the United States as well as in Mexico and Central America, prosecutors said.
The suspects “are accused of unleashing terror onto Queens communities through brutal assaults, extortion, fraud, and drug trafficking,” Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said in a statement.
The statement from the Department of Justice is pretty specific about the racketeering, drug dealing, and prostitution that was going on thanks to the 18th Street gang. Congresswoman? Do you have anything to say?
The takedown was a multi-agency operation involving the FBI’s New York Field Office, the U.S. Attorney’s Office Eastern District of New York, the Queens District Attorney’s Office with assistance from Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Secret Service and the Labor Department.
The suspects are Felix Bonilla Ramos, 36; Uriel Lopez, 30; Refugio Martinez, 32; Margarito Ortega, 38; Orlando Ramirez, 24; German Rodriguez, 34; David Vasquez Corona, 29; and Marco Vidal Mendez, 36. Only Rodriguez has legal status in the United States.
Meng praised law enforcement for working to combat gang violence in the area. Ocasio-Cortez’s office did not respond to a request for comment.
I’ve searched back in AOC’s X timeline to see if she had any comment when the DOJ made this announcement back in June. Nope, nothing. Around the same time that the DOJ was unsealing this indictment of these illegal gang members, AOC was busy promoting Zohran Mamdani to be the top pick in the Democrat ranked choice primary vote. She got her wish, as we all know. Mamdani, of course, is a raging Communist who isn’t shy about saying things like “seizing the means of production” and was a big proponent of “defunding the police.” Apparently, he is trying to soften that position now, while still keeping his eye on the goal.
In 2020, amid nationwide Black Lives Matter protests following the death of George Floyd, Mamdani publicly referred to the New York Police Department as “wicked and corrupt,” calling for its defunding and dismantlement.
In one Dec. 2020 viral tweet, he declared, “There is no negotiating with an institution this wicked & corrupt. Defund it. Dismantle it. End the cycle of violence.”
He also linked LGBTQ+ liberation to police abolition, asserting in a Nov. 2020 tweet, that “queer liberation means defund the police.”
Now, as Mamdani eyes the mayoralty, his public safety message appears to be shifting. He has backed away from some of his earlier rhetoric, acknowledging the importance of police in addressing violent crime.
“I will not defund the police. I will work with the police because I believe the police have a critical role to play in creating public safety,” he said in the second New York City Democratic mayoral debate on June 13. “Sixty-five percent of crimes from the first quarter of this year are still not solved. We need to ensure that police can focus on those crimes, and [that] we have mental health professionals and social workers to address and tackle and resolve the mental health crisis and homelessness.”
His current platform includes the creation of a Department of Community Safety to handle non-violent incidents that he believes would get to the root cause of crime. Mamdani’s public safety plan includes reallocating $600 million from existing programs and raising taxes on wealthy New Yorkers to fund the new department.
He has also spoken about reducing police overtime and cutting the NYPD’s $80 million communications budget.
Mamdani is just modifying his call to defund the police, not “backing away” from his previous positions. And he loathes ICE just as much as AOC does. Would he stop ICE from conducting these joint operations with the FBI and others to arrest gang members in New York City? Has Mamdani conferred with AOC about these arrests?
So, AOC, where are you? Do you not care that ICE arrested illegal alien gang members in your congressional district? Where are the tears, the demands, the insistence that these gang members be treated kindly and humanely? Or do you realize that these arrests and these gang members are not politically helpful to you, so you’re just going to ignore them?
All we’re hearing so far is crickets.
