$35K reward offered for suspect in ICE detention center shooting

(NewsNation) — Information leading to the arrest of a man accused of being involved in an attack on an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention center in Alvarado, Texas.

The FBI is offering a reward of up to $25,000 and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s office is offering an award of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest of Benjamin Hanil Song.

Song is accused of taking part in a July 4 attack on an ICE detention center, during which a police officer was shot and wounded.

According to authorities, he was part of a group of up to a dozen people who, dressed in black, military-style clothing, began shooting fireworks toward the center and spraying graffiti while two assailants fired on ICE officers and police.

Ten other people have been taken into custody in connection with the crime, but Song has not been apprehended.

“The targeted attacks against our federal law enforcement officers is a crime and must end,” said Governor Abbott. “Criminals such as Benjamin Hanil Song will be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

Song is facing state charges for aiding terrorism, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on a public servant and engaging in organized crime and federal charges of attempted murder of a federal officer and discharging a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence.

Song is described as an Asian male, five feet six inches tall and weighing 150 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair.

Officials say he should be considered armed and dangerous.
