Webster’s defines secular as: Pertaining to the present world, or to things not spiritual or holy; relating to things not immediately or primarily respecting the soul, but the body; worldly.
The Apostle Paul called it “a form of godliness denying the power thereof…” In fact, he considered it so damaging that he exhorted believers that from such turn away.
Just a warning…this will not be a feel-good article. If you’re an Evanjellyfish you might want to stop reading right now.
By the way, for those of you in the back row, an Evanjellyfish is a Christian without a backbone. Most American churches are populated with them. They are the mutant children produced by the false prosperity gospel. You know…the name it and claim it crew with the big church and the media-star pastor.
(I warned you. It’s not too late to quit reading.)
Christianity is not a religion. Islam is a religion. So is Buddhism…and Confuscianism…Humanism…Republicanism…
Mr. Webster defined religion as “performance of the duties we owe directly to God, from a principle of obedience to his will.”
Christianity is different from the scores of “religions” in the world in that it is the only “religion” that believes in and promotes the possibility of a PERSONAL relationship with Our Creator through an indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Hence, Christianity is a RELATIONSHIP with our CREATOR…not a religion.
But men turned it into a religion…hence the nearly 44,000 different CHRISTIAN versions of how Christianity is to be lived out. Jesus told us that it was necessary for us to be “Born Again.” In fact, He told us “Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
Have YOU been born again…?
The Kingdom of God is not a place where Christians go when they die…it is the place where Jesus lives. The Bible tells us that the Kingdom of God is WITHIN. Huh? Yeah!
Luke 17 “And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.”
What? The Kingdom is within the believer? Is that why Jesus told us “That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.”
Stop right now and read John 3. Here!
Read it again. They were new BELIEVERS…but they had no power. The Holy Spirit IS THE POWER! In fact, Paul asked a group of new believers in Acts 19 “Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.” Sounds like most denominations today
I was having a discussion the other day with a man who was singing the praises of his “Holy Ghost” filled church.
“Pardon me…Holy Ghost filled?” I asked. “Is there any other kind?”
The American church has become secularized…powerless to EXPAND the Kingdom of God…nothing more than a Christian social club…
Jesus told a group of new believers in the book of ACTS “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”
Is there real power in your faith? Are you a witness to Christ everywhere you go? In the book of ACTS the new believers were accused of “turning the world upside down.” Where is the power of God today? The world has capsized and it has been done under the watchful eye of the Secularized American church.
Cable TV destroyed Christianity. The “name it and claim it…grab it and blab it” version of Christianity spewed over the satellites produced a secularized, humanistic version of Christianity.
The world sits in the midst of perilous times. Only Christ and His Followers can right the ship. The world is waiting on us.
“ For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.”
“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”
What are Believers so afraid of?
“Have you received the Holy Spirit since you believed?”
