FBI has opened criminal investigations of James Comey and John Brennan

In 2020, former CIA Director John Brennan said that President Donald Trump “absolutely, without question” violated his oath of office by colluding with Vladimir Putin and held open the possibility of criminal charges.

However, it appears that Brennan may face the prospect of being charged as the FBI has opened a criminal investigation into him and former FBI Director James Comey. 

Brennen may have lied to Congress

That’s according to Fox News, which cited sources within the Department of Justice (DOJ) who indicated that the investigation will focus on the Trump-Russia collusion probe.

Among the allegations are that Brennan made false statements to lawmakers concerning the probe when called to testify on Capitol Hill.

The sources were less forthcoming about Comey and provided no details regarding which the former FBI director is being investigated for.

Fox News noted that the investigation began shortly after CIA Director John Ratcliffe declassified a “lessons learned” review of the creation of the 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment (ICA).

Review slams ICA which claimed that Russia helped Trump in 2016

While the ICA asserted that Russia sought to help Trump win the 2016 election, a review later concluded that the ICA’s creation had been marred by “procedural anomalies” and that its participants deviated from intelligence standards.

The review also criticized inclusion of the since discredited Steele Dossier in the ICA, something which “ran counter to fundamental tradecraft principles and ultimately undermined the credibility of a key judgment.”

For his part, Ratcliffe heralded the review’s declassification in a social media post on July 2, writing that “[President Trump] has trusted me with helping to end weaponization of U.S. intelligence.”

Comey raised eyebrows in May with “8647” social media post

This is not the only time Comey has come to the attention of America’s top federal law enforcement agency, as in May FBI Director Kash Patel announced on X that he was in communication with the Secret Service.

That announcement came after Comey posted a picture to his Instagram account which showed a collection of sea shells that had been arranged to form the number 8647.

Trump is the United States’ 47th president while the number 86 is sometimes used as a slang term for eliminating or killing someone.
