NewsNation host Chris Cuomo said on Tuesday that the political left has no claim to moral superiority following a Friday ambush targeting an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention facility in Texas.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) arrested ten suspects accused of orchestrating an armed attack on the facility and shooting a local police officer in the neck, officials said in a Monday press conference and criminal complaint. Cuomo said on “CUOMO” that the attack was analogous to “an ISIS operation” and criticized attempts to downplay it.

“Listen, I got to tell you, if you want to have the fight, I’ll have the fight, okay? If you want to try to tell me that you believe that you somehow represent something more pure when, if you’re on the left, you just had ten young people try to kill ICE officers — because their policies suck?” Cuomo said. “Because the way they’re doing it is wrong? And this is something you want to get behind? And say, ‘Yeah, well, but—’ What ‘but’!? What are you, nuts!?”
“If you want to have the fight, I’m here for it, okay? Because these fringe people on either side — you want somebody to take you on, I’m here for it — because you’re killing us with your crazy … this was planned, it was organized, they baited, they picked the date, they were heavily armed,” he continued. “I’m telling you, this could just have easily been an ISIS operation — and we would want to kill an entire country again! And yet now, ‘This is no big deal. This is no big deal.’”
Police published mugshots of the suspects on Monday, revealing a cast of characters who fit the familiar profile of left-wing extremists.
The leftist mob arrived at the scene on Friday evening “wearing all black” and started shooting fireworks and writing graffiti, including “ICE pig,” around the detention center and parking lot, according to the complaint. Two suspects fired 20 to 30 rounds at federal and local officers, wounding the one officer, the DOJ alleged.
“It was a planned ambush with the intent to kill ICE corrections officers,” acting U.S. Attorney Nancy Larson said at the press conference. “Make no mistake. This was not a so-called peaceful protest.”
Law enforcement officials also announced Monday that a gunman shot at Border Patrol agents at a Border Patrol facility in McAllen, Texas. Local police and border agents returned fire and killed the gunman.
