Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has once again shown his true colors, vowing that Chicago “will not ever cooperate with ICE.” In a defiant and provocative statement this Tuesday, Johnson doubled down on his sanctuary city stance, openly rebelling against federal immigration laws and endangering the safety and security of law-abiding Chicagoans.
Johnson’s latest comments come as President Trump escalates efforts to secure our nation’s borders and restore law and order. With crime surging in cities across America—thanks to years of reckless Democrat policies—Trump’s administration is leading the charge against illegal immigration, prioritizing the safety and well-being of American citizens above all else.
But Mayor Johnson has chosen a different path. During a recent press conference, he didn’t just openly refuse to comply with ICE; he cast President Trump’s immigration enforcement efforts as somehow divisive and harmful, calling them “unconscionable.” It is astonishing that a mayor of one of America’s largest cities would characterize enforcing our nation’s laws as anything less than essential and honorable.
Let’s be clear: ICE agents are dedicated law enforcement officers working tirelessly to protect American citizens from violent criminals, human traffickers, and drug cartels. They deserve our respect and support, not dangerous rhetoric and threats. Yet, Johnson has not only criticized ICE but has urged Chicagoans to “rise up” against these federal agents, irresponsibly fueling hostility and potentially endangering lives.
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson vowed Tuesday that his city “will not ever cooperate with ICE.”
“You know, again, it’s unconscionable at a time in which so many working people and poor people need government to show up for them, that this administration, the Trump administration, has caused so much consternation and division,” Johnson said Tuesday during a press conference.
Meanwhile, the consequences of Johnson’s irresponsible sanctuary policies are clear. Since August 31, 2022, Chicago has allowed over 51,000 illegal immigrants from the southern border to flood into the city. This surge places enormous strain on public resources and neighborhoods, burdening schools, hospitals, and law enforcement. It is hardworking Chicagoans—already grappling with rampant crime and economic hardship—who bear the brunt of Johnson’s reckless politics.
Tom Homan, the Trump Administration’s border czar, recently discussed the alarming rise in violence against ICE agents, noting assaults have increased over 500%. “Now you’ve got an app that’s going to tell where ICE operations are going to. It’s only a matter of time before ICE agents are ambushed by some nut,” Homan warned during an appearance on “The Will Cain Show.”
Consider the dangerous message Mayor Johnson sends when he calls enforcement of immigration laws “terrorism” and encourages resistance against federal authorities. Rather than protecting the citizens of Chicago, Johnson is actively undermining their safety by emboldening criminals and lawbreakers.
The White House was quick to respond to Johnson’s reckless stance. Spokeswoman Abigail Jackson sharply rebuked Democrat politicians for their dangerous priorities, stating, “Democrat politicians are desperate to defend violent criminal illegal aliens over American citizens. It’s wrong. And it’s why the American people rejected the Democrats in November and sent President Trump back to the White House.” Jackson added, “President Trump is committed to carrying out the largest mass deportation operation in history by specifically targeting dangerous sanctuary cities that provide safe harbor to criminal illegals.”
It’s past time for Mayor Johnson and Democrats like him to wake up. Their radical sanctuary policies don’t make Chicago safer—they invite chaos, crime, and lawlessness into their communities. President Trump understands that the first priority of any government is the safety and security of its citizens. He continues to fight tirelessly for border security, law enforcement, and the rule of law.
The citizens of Chicago deserve better. They deserve leaders who put their safety and security first—not politicians like Brandon Johnson, whose dangerous rhetoric and sanctuary policies betray the very people he was elected to serve.
