President Donald Trump snapped during a Cabinet meeting Tuesday after a reporter asked Attorney General Pam Bondi about the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) findings in the Jeffrey Epstein case.
The president interrupted the question, expressing clear frustration and urging the press to focus on more urgent matters facing the country.
The interruption occurred as Bondi was being asked to address a newly released DOJ memo that concluded Epstein’s death in federal custody was not the result of foul play.
Before Bondi could respond, Trump interrupted, expressing frustration and questioning why the media continued to focus on the Epstein case despite the investigation’s official conclusion and recent clarifications.
“Are you still talking about Jeffrey Epstein?” Trump said, according to the Daily Mail. “This guy’s been talked about for years.”
The president then pointed to ongoing tragedies at home and growing tensions abroad as far more important areas of concern.
He referenced the severe flooding that has devastated parts of Texas in recent days, as well as escalating conflicts overseas, indicating that the timing of the question was inappropriate.
“We’re dealing with real crises right now,” Trump said. “To bring this up now — it just doesn’t sit right.”
Bondi, who serves as Attorney General, had been prepared to respond, but Trump continued, suggesting that the reporter’s question was an unnecessary distraction from current national priorities.
“Do you want to answer that?” Trump asked her. “Or do you want to use this time for something more relevant?”
When Bondi finally did weigh in, she clarified that there was no official “client list” associated with Epstein’s federal investigation.
She explained that references to additional files had been misinterpreted and that unreleased materials primarily involved illegal images that would not be made public under any circumstances.
“They’re not going to be released — ever,” she said firmly.
The DOJ memo, released just days earlier, reaffirmed that Epstein died by suicide in 2019 and found no credible evidence that he had compiled blackmail material on high-profile individuals.
These conclusions contradict persistent suspicions held by some members of the public and political figures.
Trump had previously pledged to declassify sensitive documents related to Epstein and other historical investigations during his 2024 campaign.
However, his response during Tuesday’s meeting appeared to signal a pivot away from revisiting the Epstein matter, at least for now.
The exchange sparked strong reactions on social media, particularly among conservatives who felt the issue was far from resolved.
“Trump is massively misreading his base on this one. It could cost him the midterms,” wrote conservative commentator Liz Wheeler. “People CARE about Epstein. Not only because of the grisly crimes against children, but because there’s evidence of a government cover-up.”
“This smells off,” posted conservative influencer Paul A. Szypula. “We’re supposed to now believe Epstein is the only person who committed crimes?”
“Seems like there may be something to hide,” another user added.
Despite the criticism, the Trump administration appears to be prioritizing current issues rather than revisiting previously closed investigations.
