Our good friends on the left cheered when the Supreme Court let stand a lower court ruling, in Lozano v City of Hazleton, that only the federal government has any power over immigration, invalidating a Hazleton, Pennsylvania ordinance which prohibited landlords from leasing to immigrants who could not prove their legal status.
Hazleton may not unilaterally prohibit those lacking lawful status from living within its boundaries, without regard for the Executive Branch’s enforcement and policy priorities. “If every other state enacted similar legislation to overburden the lives of aliens, the immigration scheme would be turned on its head.”[1]Lozano v City of Hazleton, No. 07-3531 (3d Cir. 2013), page 39 of embedded .pdf file.
Note that the wording mentioned not just the law, but “the Executive Branch’s enforcement and policy priorities”, meaning that if the Feds were not going to enforce the law, the states and localities could not choose to do otherwise.
But now we have states and localities who want to allow the federal government to enforce federal laws which have been on the books for many years, because “the Executive Branch’s enforcement and policy priorities” have changed. We voted for this! Illegal immigration has been President Trump’s main issue all along, and he has twice been elected President of the United States. President Biden tried to push through an amnesty law, but our elected representatives chose not to enact it, which means that the elected representatives of the people of the United States were satisfied with the laws that were already on the books.
So now we have our good friends on the left whining that Mr Trump is an [insert slang term for the anus here], a complete meanie-hoonie, sending ICE and other law enforcement agencies to actually enforce our immigration laws, arresting poor, poor immigrants who are only here to work for their families, doing jobs Americans won’t do. How odd it is that those same people on the left were utterly aghast that President Trump pardoned the Capitol kerfufflers, screaming that the President was letting these wicked evildoers get away with breaking the law, even though most of those pardoned had already been punished, already served their sentences.

Man killed after firing at border patrol facility in McAllen, Texas
By Seth McLaughlin | Monday, July 7, 2025
Law enforcement officials in McAllen, Texas, shot and killed a man after he opened fire with a rifle on a Border Patrol facility, the latest in increasing violent attacks on federal immigration and border agents.
McAllen Police Chief Victor Rodriguez said local police responded to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s McAllen Station after reports of a shooting shortly before 6 a.m.
The shooter was identified as 27-year-old Ryan Louis Mosqueda, who was reported missing roughly two hours before the shooting.
Further down:
The shooting comes as the Trump administration makes an aggressive push to stem the flow of illegal immigrants and illegal drugs from crossing into the country along the U.S.-Mexico border.
The number of border crossings has plummeted, including in McAllen.
So, Mr Mosqueda’s actions weren’t in defense of illegal immigrants who were already in the United States, but a protest that ICE and the Border Patrol were keeping more potential immigrants from crossing the border illegally. Got it!
Democrats’ fierce rhetoric condemning Mr. Trump’s mass deportations has been blamed for an increasing number of violent attacks on federal immigration and border agents. . . . .
Democrats insist it is the Trump administration that’s gone too far in pursuing illegal immigrants.
“ICE is acting like a terrorist force,” Rep. Pramila Jayapal, Washington Democrat, said recently on social media. “People across the country of all legal statuses — including U.S. citizens — are being kidnapped and disappeared off the street by masked men.”
The very lovely Representative has long been an advocate for unrestricted immigration. Other than the fact she is a member of Congress, her opinions are not to be taken seriously.
The Trump Administration was elected to stop illegal immigration and deport those who are living here illegally. As we have previously noted, a significant number of the illegals have self-deported, have chosen to return to their home countries rather than waiting to be arrested and deported. Representative Williamson[2]Just because Pramila Jayapal Williamson has not shown enough respect to her husband, Stephen Williamson, to have taken his name does not mean that The First Street Journal will show him similar … Continue reading is appalled that federal agents are using force to arrest the non-compliant, but that’s what the police have to do to take into custody those resisting arrest or fleeing. The police sometimes have to be [insert plural slang term for the anus here] to get the job done, and our President sometimes has to be the same to do the right thing for our country.
We do need immigrants, good immigrants, immigrants who have been as fully vetted as possible, immigrants who have chosen to obey our immigration laws and come here legally. Those who are already here illegally have proven themselves to be lawbreakers, and we definitely do not need them.
