SAN JOSE, CA – A veteran officer with the San Jose Police Department has been charged with multiple counts of lewd acts involving a minor, as announced at a recent press conference by local authorities.
Officer Salter Duran, who joined the department in 2003, faces five felony charges after a thorough investigation into allegations dating back over a decade. The case emerged in June when two sisters reported to police that Duran had sexually assaulted them during their youth.
The investigation revealed that the alleged incidents occurred about 13 years ago, primarily involving the younger sister, who was 14 or 15 at the time. Although the older sister, then 16, also made claims, no charges have been filed concerning her allegations.
Police have stated that there is currently no evidence of additional victims. However, they are urging anyone with information or similar experiences to come forward, emphasizing the importance of accountability and justice.
“We understand the difficulty of coming forward with such experiences,” a police spokesperson said. “We are committed to listening and holding those responsible accountable.”
Duran was arrested on Monday but has since been released on bail. He remains on administrative leave pending the outcome of the case.
The San Jose Police Department continues to investigate and encourages any potential survivors to contact them, hoping to uncover the full extent of the allegations.
This case underscores the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in addressing misconduct within its ranks while maintaining public trust.
As the legal process unfolds, the community watches closely, hoping for a resolution that brings justice to the victims and reinforces ethical standards within the police force.
