A Pink Floyd co-founder chose a designated terror organization as his hill to die on, making a “Spartacus” video that could put him behind bars for the rest of his days.
No stranger to controversy, Roger Waters, the former bassist for the renowned rock band behind “The Dark Side of the Moon,” was determined to leave no doubt about his opposition to Israel. To that end, he published a video of himself on Saturday declaring his independence from the government of the United Kingdom by issuing his support for the group Palestine Action after a proscription designation had been applied that could mean more than a decade in prison.
“This is the moment. I am Spartacus,” the 81-year-old rocker said after displaying the cardboard sign that he’d made up. “This says, ‘ROGERS WATERS SUPPORTS PALESTINE ACTION, 5th of July 2025. Parliament has been corrupted by agents of a genocidal foreign power! STAND UP AND BE COUNTED. IT’S NOW!!!’”
It’s today, July 5th 2025.

“This is Independence Day, July 5th, 2025. I declare my independence from the government of the U.K., who’ve just designated Palestine Action a terrorist, proscribed terrorist organization,” continued Waters. “They’re a non-violent protest organization protesting presence in the U.K. of Elbit Systems, who are an Israeli arms manufacturing organization. All right. So, that’s that. I support Palestine Action, and I always will because that is the right thing to do.”
Despite the protestations of the former Pink Floyd member, the “non-violent protest” group reportedly caused roughly £7 million in damages to two planes after they broke into Royal Air Force base Brize Norton last week, the BBC detailed.
Penalties for a convicted proscription offense include a maximum fine of £5,000, up to six months behind bars for a minor offense, and up to 14 years in prison for belonging to a proscribed organization or even expressing an opinion in support of the group. The U.K. currently has 81 different international terrorist groups and 14 organizations in Northern Ireland proscribed.
The same day Waters posted his video, 29 people were arrested at a protest voicing their support for Palestine Action.
On top of praising Palestine Action as a “great organization,” he saw fit to laud the rap group Bob Vylan for their display at Glastonbury Festival days earlier. “We must support our brothers and sisters in Palestine and support them no matter what. So good on you, what was your name? Vylan. Good on you, Vylan, and the rest of you who are standing up to be counted. I love you.”
The rap group led a chant of “Death, death to the IDF,” which led to a revocation of their visa by the United States State Department, preventing them from touring stateside.
Shortly after the Oct. 7, 2023, terror attack on Israel by Hamas, Waters himself expressed the view that the slaughter of men, women, and children may have been a “false flag operation.” Earlier that same year, an investigation was opened by law enforcement in Berlin, Germany after the rocker appeared to be “approving, glorifying or justifying” the Nazis during a performance where he donned an outfit similar to a Nazi SS officer, complete with a red armband, while an inflatable pig emblazoned with symbols like the Star of David circled above the crowd.
Meanwhile, Home Office Minister of State David Hanson spoke to the decision to name Palestine Action a proscribed terrorist group alongside freedom of speech concerns as he said, “I will always defend the right of British people to engage in legitimate and peaceful protest and to stand up for the causes in which they believe. But essential as these rights are, they do not provide a blank check for this particular group to seriously damage property or subject members of the public to fear and violence.”
“We would not tolerate this activity from organizations if they were motivated by Islamist or extreme right-wing ideology, and therefore I cannot tolerate it from Palestine Action,” he went on. “By implementing this measure, we will remove Palestine Action’s veil of legitimacy, tackle its financial support, degrade its efforts to recruit and radicalize people into committing terrorist activity in its name.”
