U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the FBI arrested Jonny Handy Martinez-Barillas, a Honduran illegal alien and MS-13 gang member, in Indiana, following previous charges of first-degree murder and firearm possession in Maryland, where local police ignored an ICE detainer in 2023, allowing him to remain a threat until his recent apprehension.
Alongside Martinez-Barillas, ICE also detained Danilo Amilcar-Escobar, another criminal alien who had been deported three times since April 2024 and faced pending charges for strangulation, domestic battery, and cocaine possession, highlighting ongoing challenges with repeat offenders.
The arrests are part of broader efforts by ICE to address the presence of dangerous criminal aliens, as evidenced by a related case in May 2025 where Jose Salvador Gonzalez-Campos, another MS-13 member from El Salvador, was sentenced to a year in federal prison for illegal firearm possession after an 18-month investigation involving multiple law enforcement agencies.
