Jeffrey Epstein died by suicide and did not possess a “client list,” the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the FBI concluded in a July 7 memo — closing the door on years of public suspicion surrounding the case.
“After a thorough investigation, FBI investigators concluded that Jeffrey Epstein committed suicide in his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York City on August 10, 2019,” the memo stated. “This conclusion is consistent with previous findings.”
Enhanced security footage from the Special Housing Unit (SHU) showed that no one entered or exited Epstein’s cell block between the time he was locked in his cell at 10:40 p.m. Aug. 9, until the following morning, according to the memo.
The DOJ released the security video showing the common area of the SHU where Epstein was housed the night of his death.
Weeks before his death, officials placed Epstein on suicide watch after he was found with neck injuries. He was removed from suicide watch just days before his death. According to FOX, Epstein faced charges of sexually exploiting more than 250 underage girls at the time of his 2019 arrest.
The DOJ also addressed persistent allegations that Epstein kept a list of powerful clients for blackmail purposes.
“This systematic review revealed no incriminating ‘client list,’” the DOJ wrote. “There was also no credible evidence found that Epstein blackmailed prominent individuals as part of his actions. We did not uncover evidence that could predicate an investigation against uncharged third parties.”
Officials said further disclosures would be withheld to protect the privacy of those affected by Epstein’s crimes.
Epstein’s longtime associate Ghislaine Maxwell is currently serving a 20-year sentence for child sex-trafficking and related offenses.
Despite the memo’s conclusions, Epstein’s death continues to fuel public distrust, with many online demanding to know more about the investigation. In March, Attorney General Pam Bondi said a “truckload” of Epstein files were “sitting on my desk right now to review,” further stirring speculation.
