It is no secret that many in the mainstream media have made it their mission to target and undermine President Donald Trump and anyone affiliated with his administration.
According to Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, a journalist from the Washington Post has been engaged in a harassment campaign against members of her staff, one which allegedly involves the use of burner phones as a mode of contact, as Fox News reports.
Gabbard’s claims
It was on Thursday that Gabbard went public with her accusations against Post reporter Ellen Nakashima, according to Breitbart.
Taking to X to reveal her concerns, Gabbard wrote, “It has come to my attention that Washington Post reporter @nakashimae appears to be actively harassing ODNI staff.”
Gabbard went on, “Instead of reaching out to my press office, she is calling high level Intelligence Officers from a burner phone, refusing to identify herself, lying about the fact that she works for the Washington Post, and then demanding they share sensitive information.”
The Trump Cabinet official continued, “Apparently, publishing leaked classified material wasn’t enough for the Washington Post, so now they’ve decided to go after the Intelligence professionals charged to protect it. This is a clear political op by the same outlet and the same reporter who harassed and stalked my family in Hawaii.”
Gabbard concluded, “This kind of deranged behavior reflects a media establishment so desperate to sabotage @POTUS’s successful agenda that they’ve abandoned even a facade of journalistic integrity and ethics. The Washington Post should be ashamed, and they should put an end to this immediately.”
Washington Post fires back
In response to Gabbard’s accusations, Washington Post executive editor Matt Murray also to X to express his point of view.
Murray wrote, “For three decades, Ellen Nakashima has been one of the most careful, fair-minded, and highly regarded reporters covering national security.”
He went on, “Reaching out to potential sources rather than relying solely on official government press statements regarding matters of public interest is neither nefarious nor is it harassment. It is basic journalism.”
Murray did not stop there, adding, “DNI Gabbard’s unfounded personal attack reflects a fundamental misunderstanding about the role of journalists to report on government officials and hold power to account, without fear or favor and regardless of party.”
He concluded by declaring, “The Post remains committed to that vital and constitutionally protected work.”
Problematic history?
Though Murray offered a full-throated defense of Nakashima, Breitbart’s John Nolte, back in 2020, revealed that she was among those journalists who pushed the narrative that Hunter Biden’s laptop was a product of Russian disinformation.
That conduct alone lends at least some credibility to the suspicions Gabbard has since raised about the integrity of Nakashima’s research and reporting practices.
