Donald Trump’s once-surprising foothold among Generation Z appears to be crumbling faster than a house of cards in a windstorm.
The Daily Mail reported that new polling data paints a grim picture of Trump’s standing with young voters, as his approval ratings plummet to historic lows amid frustration over economic policies, inflation, and immigration stances, while mixed reactions to military actions and legislative moves add fuel to the fire.
Earlier this year, Trump had narrowed the gap with younger voters, showing unexpected strength among the 18-to-29 crowd, trailing his opponent by just a few points.
But the latest numbers tell a different tale, with a YouGov/Yahoo survey revealing Trump’s net approval among Gen Z dropping from -23 to a staggering -41 in a single month, with a mere 27% giving him a thumbs-up.
A Quantus poll echoes the collapse, showing support among these voters sliding from 46% to 35% in mere weeks.
Not to be outdone, an ActiVote survey found a whopping 62% of Gen Z now disapprove of Trump’s performance—turns out, winning hearts isn’t as easy as posting a meme.
Barron Trump Steps Into the Ring
Enter Barron Trump, the 18-year-old scion turned campaign trail ambassador, working overtime to bridge the generational divide.
Barron’s savvy moves included nudging his father onto comedian Theo Von’s podcast and setting up a viral 90-minute chat with Kick streamer Adin Ross, which pulled in half a million live viewers and, per Trump’s own Truth Social, racked up 100 million views total.
Together with conservative influencer Bo Loudon, Barron pushed for engagements with Gen Z icons like Jake Paul and Patrick Bet-David, proving that even in politics, knowing the right influencer can be half the battle.
Yet, despite these efforts, Trump’s handling of key issues like inflation is tanking his Gen Z appeal, with approval on the matter falling from 32% to just 23% in a month, according to YouGov/Economist data.
Then there’s the ‘Big Beautiful Bill,’ a sweeping Republican tax-and-spending package that’s cleared Congress and awaits Trump’s signature, promising $1,000 accounts for newborns, no taxes on tips or overtime, border wall funding, an AI regulation ban for a decade, and stricter welfare rules.
Only 28% of voters back this bill per a Daily Mail/J.L. Partners poll, with 36% opposed, and a CBS News/YouGov survey found 47% believe it’ll harm the middle class—hardly the populist win Trump might have envisioned.
Military Moves Spark Mixed Reactions
On the foreign policy front, Trump’s authorization of U.S. airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites during the brief ‘12 Day War’ with Israel, followed by brokering a ceasefire after Iranian missile attacks, has split public opinion.
While 30% of voters in a Daily Mail/J.L. Partners poll praised Trump’s strength and decisiveness in defending national interests, roughly a third soured on him, citing fears of wider conflict, perceived overreach in bypassing Congress, and frustration with what they call ego-driven choices.
Overall, Trump’s broader approval rating holds steady at 47%, with disapproval at 53% per the same poll, suggesting that while Gen Z may be slipping away, his core base isn’t budging—yet another reminder that in politics, you can’t please everyone.
