President Donald Trump has already begun planning for a grandiose celebration of the United States’ 250th Anniversary next July 4th, which will culminate a year’s worth of patriotic activities and events across the country.
Trump revealed in a speech on Thursday that part of the planned festivities will be a major UFC fight event on the grounds of the White House, Breitbart reported.
Though no significant details have been released yet, both the White House and the UFC have confirmed that the president was “serious” about the idea and that “discussions” are already underway to make Trump’s vision a reality.
UFC fight at the White House
President Trump delivered a speech on Thursday at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines and said to the crowd of his supporters, “Does anybody watch UFC? The great Dana White? We’re going to have a UFC fight. We’re going to have a UFC fight — think of this — on the grounds of the White House.”
He suggested that UFC CEO Dana White, a close friend and staunch supporter, would build an octagon fighting arena somewhere on the White House grounds, and stated, “We have a lot of land there, we’re going to build a little — we’re not, Dana is going to do it. Dana is great, one of a kind — going to be UFC fight, championship fight, full fight, like 20,000 to 25,000 people, and we’re going to do that as part of ‘250.’”
“We’re going to have some incredible events, some professional events, some amateur events. But the UFC fight is going to be a big deal, too,” the president continued, and further revealed that “our national parks, battlefields, and historic sites” would all host various “special events in honor of ‘America250.'”
“Exactly one year from tomorrow, we will celebrate the 250th anniversary of America’s founding with a birthday party the likes of which you have never seen before,” Trump added. “Together, we’re going to ensure that America’s 250th anniversary is the single greatest year in the history of our country.”
Plans for a White House UFC event confirmed
CNN reported that White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, when asked about President Trump’s remarks about a UFC fight at the White House, confirmed that her boss was “dead serious” about the idea.
Likewise, an unnamed UFC official confirmed to the news outlet that “We are in discussions with the White House about hosting a UFC event on site,” though they had no further details to share at this time.
Newsweek reported that oddsmakers almost immediately began taking bets on whether the UFC event would happen and where on the White House grounds it would occur, which fighters might be included, and Trump’s level of personal involvement, including if he would present the championship belt to the ultimate winner, among other details.
The “America250” celebration
According to a White House “fact sheet,” President Trump was at the State Fairgrounds in Iowa on Thursday to kick off what has been dubbed the “Great American State Fair,” which will involve a series of 250th Anniversary celebratory events at state fairgrounds across the country over the next year and conclude with a massive “festival” on the National Mall on next year’s Independence Day.
The July 4, 2026, celebration on the National Mall will be a “unifying, patriotic, family-friendly event that will feature exhibits from all 50 states and attract visitors from around the world.”
Planning for the year-long celebration of America’s semiquincentennial anniversary began earlier this year after President Trump established via executive order a special “Task Force 250” that will include several Cabinet secretaries and other relevant officials, who were ordered to “provide a grand celebration worthy of the momentous occasion of the 250th anniversary of American Independence on July 4, 2026.”
In addition to the various state fairs and the National Mall event, per the fact sheet, the celebration will also include a “Patriot Games” athletic competition featuring top high school athletes from across the country, as well as the unveiling of a “National Garden of American Heroes” featuring statues honoring 250 heroic figures from the nation’s past, among other patriotic-themed decor and events in the nation’s capital.
