U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor is trying to claim that President Donald Trump as the top court on “speed dial.”
Newsweek reports that Sotomayor made the remark in a recent dissent.
This has to do with the case in which the court essentially gave Trump the green light to deport migrants, including to countries from which they do not originate. There will be more on this in a moment.
First, however, we’ll take a look at Sotomayor’s claim.
“Speed dial”
According to Newsweek, Sotomayor, in her dissent, wrote, “Today’s order clarifies only one thing: Other litigants must follow the rules, but the administration has the Supreme Court on speed dial.”
She went on to argue that the court’s decision would result in a situation in which the government will be “deporting noncitizens to potentially dangerous countries without notice or the opportunity to assert a fear of torture.”
Sotomayor, here, appears to be trying to mix some fearmongering with some unfounded corruption charges.
There, after all, may be a very good reason why Trump and the Department of Justice (DOJ) have filed so many appeals with the Supreme Court. It just may be the case, for example, that Democrat-appointed lower court judges are playing politics, trying to stop Trump when they have no right to do so.
Sotomayor also claimed, “Today’s order not only excuses (once again) the Government’s undisguised contempt for the Judiciary; it also leaves the District Court without any guidance about how this litigation should proceed.”
Trump takes action
Fox News reports that the Trump administration has already taken the Supreme Court’s ruling and run with it.
Per the outlet:
Eight criminal illegal aliens were deported to South Sudan on Independence Day, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced Saturday, after what it called “weeks of delays by activist judges” that left ICE officers stranded and at risk.
The outlet goes on to quote Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin as saying, “These sickos were finally deported to South Sudan on Independence Day. After weeks of delays by activist judges that put our law enforcement in danger, ICE deported these eight barbaric criminal illegal aliens who are so heinous even their own countries will not accept them.”
Fox goes on to report on the eight individuals’ criminal history, which includes a litany of serious crimes.
Here are two examples:
Enrique Arias-Hierro, a Cuban national, was convicted of homicide, armed robbery, kidnapping and impersonating a law enforcement officer. Jose Manuel Rodriguez-Quinones, also from Cuba, was convicted of attempted first-degree murder with a weapon, battery, larceny and drug trafficking.
