New York City’s politics just took a hard left turn.
A radical socialist won the Democrat primary and wants to destroy what’s left of the Big Apple.
And Ron DeSantis gave one brutal takedown that left this socialist mayoral candidate looking like a complete fool.
DeSantis unloads on New York’s newest radical
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis didn’t hold back when he appeared on Sean Hannity’s show Tuesday night to discuss New York City’s latest political disaster.
The Democrat primary winner’s radical agenda puts him to the left of even the Squad’s most vocal members.
That’s saying something.
“This guy makes de Blasio look like Ronald Reagan,” DeSantis quipped during the interview.¹
Anyone who survived Bill de Blasio’s disastrous tenure as mayor understands just how harsh that comparison really is.
De Blasio’s policies transformed the city into a crime-infested disaster zone where businesses shuttered and ordinary citizens feared for their safety.
But according to DeSantis, Mamdani would make de Blasio’s policies look conservative by comparison.
“I remember when de Blasio was mayor during COVID, it sparked a flow out of New York City and into Florida … I think this guy’s policies are probably the most radical left I’ve ever seen from a major party candidate in a big jurisdiction.”¹

The radical agenda that has DeSantis fired up
The candidate’s platform sounds like it was ripped straight from a socialist handbook.
His plan calls for dismantling the NYPD completely.
Rather than deploying trained law enforcement to handle dangerous criminals and drug dealers, Mamdani believes social workers should respond to these volatile situations.
That’s not policy – that’s pure insanity.
“It’s the crazy economics, saying they want to tax white neighborhoods more. But he also wants to abolish the NYPD. He doesn’t want to send officers to dangerous areas; he wants to send social workers. This is something above and beyond the destruction that New York City has already seen.”¹
The racial component of Mamdani’s tax plan shows just how far left the Democrat party has drifted.
They’re not even pretending to support equality anymore – they want outright discrimination written into law.
DeSantis also noted that Mamdani has “the same line of thinking, probably to the nth degree” as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.²
When AOC looks moderate compared to your candidate, that should tell you everything about where the Democrat party is headed.
Florida prepares for the New York exodus
DeSantis knows what’s coming if Mamdani wins in November.
New Yorkers with any sense will pack up and head south to escape the socialist nightmare their city is about to become.
“If they elect this guy, it’s going to decline even more,” DeSantis said while signing Florida’s budget Monday.³
The Florida governor even joked about charging an entry tax for all the people who will flee New York.
“I could probably extinguish the other half if I just charge an entry tax for all the people who are going to flee this guy,” DeSantis quipped. “Especially the rich people.”³
That’s not just a funny line – it’s based on hard data.
During de Blasio’s time as mayor, especially during COVID, thousands of New Yorkers relocated to Florida to escape the high taxes and failed policies.
If Mamdani becomes mayor with his even more radical agenda, that trickle will become a flood.
DeSantis stands ready to defend Florida
The Florida governor made it crystal clear that he won’t let Mamdani export his failed socialist ideas to the Sunshine State.
“We will do whatever we have to defend people against a communist Mayor out of state,” DeSantis warned. “We’re not gonna let him come in and spew his leftism in the free state of Florida.”²
DeSantis is also prepared to welcome New York’s police officers with open arms when they realize their new mayor doesn’t even believe their jobs should exist.
Florida currently offers $5,000 recruitment bonuses to law enforcement officers from other states.
DeSantis is considering boosting those bonuses specifically to help NYPD officers escape Mamdani’s anti-police agenda.
“What do you think is going to happen if this guy becomes Mayor? He wants to abolish NYPD, so you’re going to see a lot of people take advantage of that,” DeSantis predicted.⁴
The governor understands what police officers are thinking: “Why am I wearing this uniform and putting myself at risk when you have a Mayor that doesn’t even believe our job should exist, doesn’t believe these people should be held accountable for the crimes?”⁴
The contrast couldn’t be clearer
While New York moves further left into socialist fantasy land, Florida continues to thrive under conservative leadership.
DeSantis pointed out that New York runs a budget twice the size of Florida’s despite having fewer residents.
“And yet we do better services, better infrastructure, and higher-performing education,” DeSantis said. “Where is all that money going? A lot of it, quite frankly, is going to entrenched interests.”³
Florida also has the distinction of having the lowest number of government employees per capita of any state.
That’s what happens when you have leaders who believe in limited government instead of socialist bureaucracy.
The choice facing New York voters in November couldn’t be more stark.
They can elect a radical socialist who wants to abolish police and raise taxes based on race.
Or they can choose someone who might actually try to save what’s left of their once-great city.
DeSantis continues to express pessimism about the Democrat nominee, claiming Tuesday that the candidate represents a possible “collapse of New York City.”²
For the sake of the millions of people who still call New York home, let’s hope the voters make the right choice.
