President Donald Trump surprised many when he granted pardons to reality television stars Todd and Julie Chrisley, prompting some to wonder who might be next on the list.
Now, to the annoyance of many, Gia Guidice, daughter of former Real Housewives stars Teresa and Joe Guidice, has made a personal plea to Trump to grant clemency to her father, who was deported to his native Italy after serving his sentence for tax evasion and other crimes, as Page Six reports.
A daughter’s request
In a heartfelt plea made on Instagram, Gia Guidice requested mercy for her dad, who has been living abroad since 2019.
“Hey guys, my name is Gia Guidice,” she began. “I’m the daughter of Joe Giudice, and today I’m using my voice for something deeply personal.”
The young adult added, “My dad was deported over four years ago. Since then, our family has lived in an emotional limbo. No matter how strong we try to be in the absence of a father, of a parent, it’s something that never stops hurting.”
She went on to explain that her father was once a substantial presence in her life, attending “every cheer competition, every dance recital, holiday,” but now is forced to live thousands of miles away.”
“Watching the Chrisley family receive a second chance inspired me,” Guidice continued, hoping that Trump might agree that “people can be forgiven, that families could be restored, and that sometimes the justice system has room for grace.”
Critics weigh in
Though many can surely relate to her desire to reunite her family stateside, Gia Guidice’s plea, for many, was the embodiment of arrogance.
One commentator, subtly referencing ICE raids and subsequent deportations, said of Guidice’s post, “Privilege at its finest……what advice would you give all the other young people who are having their families torn apart for less reasons. I’m curious.”
Another pointed to the seriousness of Joe Giudice’s offenses, saying, “Mind u, this is an ACTUAL convicted felon, but go off.”
Yet another critic mused, “I’m big confused because aren’t y’all flying to Italy to see him all the time anyway? So not only do you have the financial privilege to go and see him basically whenever you want, but you also have the privilege of having a big enough platform to even ask the president for a pardon for your father.”
A different social media commentator decried the concept of “rich people thinking they can do whatever they want and then begging for mercy just because they have status or money.”
Joe’s entreaty
It is not just Gia who hopes Trump will take an interest in Joe Giudice’s quest for a pardon, as the man himself, now living in the Bahamas, has gone public with his desire for clemency, as People reports.
Taking to Instagram late last month, he wrote, “I’m Joe Giudice. I served my time, and I’ve been deported from the U.S. for nearly a decade. I was raised in Jersey, I’m a father of four amazing daughters, and I just want to be allowed to visit them again,” but whether the president will make that happen, only time will tell.
