Since it was ratified in 1951, the Constitution’s Twenty-Second Amendment has barred presidents from serving more than two terms in office.
However, one congressman recently suggested that President Donald Trump should not only be allowed to run for a third term but also gain a spot on Mt. Rushmore.
Lawmaker says bill will “usher in a new golden age”
According to Breitbart, Georgia Republican Rep. Andy Ogles put forward that argument in a statement released on Thursday.
“President Donald Trump and House Republicans just made history,” Ogles said just one day before Trump signed his “Big Beautiful” spending bill in a ceremony at the White House.
“I was at the White House with President Trump for several hours yesterday and spent countless hours whipping votes with Speaker Johnson for the One Big Beautiful Bill,” he declared.
“This historic legislation will unleash our economy and usher in a new golden age for America,” Ogles stressed before laying out some of the legislation’s positive elements.
Ogles: Trump “deserves serious consideration for a third term”
Among them are making Trump’s 2017 tax cuts permanent as well as exempting tips and overtime wages from federal taxation.
What’s more, the bill provides funding for Trump’s Golden Dome missile defense system along with a major boost in funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
“Thanks to President Trump, we’re finally reversing the damage caused by Big Government and Democrat cronies,” Ogles continued.
“Wins like this are exactly why he deserves serious consideration for a third term — AND why so many believe he belongs on Mt. Rushmore,” the Georgia lawmaker went on to add.
Florida congresswoman’s bill would place Trump on Mt. Rushmore
What’s more, Breitbart pointed out that the Republican congressman also reiterated his praise for Trump in a social media post.
President Trump and House Republicans just made history.

This game-changing bill will launch:
–– Historic tax cuts 💰
–– Stronger borders 🛡️
–– No taxes…— Rep. Andy Ogles (@RepOgles) July 3, 2025
Ogles is not the first GOP House member to advocate for putting Trump’s face on Mt. Rushmore, as Florida Rep. Anna Paulina Luna has done so as well.
“President Trump’s bold leadership and steadfast dedication to America’s greatness have cemented his place in history,” Luna said after introducing a bill that would place Trump alongside Presidents Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt and Lincoln.
