For over a month, former Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) head Elon Musk has been engaged in a heated public feud with President Donald Trump.
This week saw Musk sharply escalate their conflict by pulling the trigger on his threat to create a new political party. Â
Musk announces creation of “America Party”
According to Breitbart, Musk made the announcement this past weekend in a post on X, the social media platform which he owns.
“When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste [and] graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy. Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom,” Musk wrote.
Breitbart pointed out that Musk’s statement came after weeks of railing against the tax and spending bill which Trump signed in a ceremony at the White House.
Musk complained that the legislation added too much to America’s debt burden, an issue addressed during a March town hall meeting in Wisconsin.
Billionaire raises alarm over deficit spending
“What really matters is that government spending is not far in excess of government revenue,” the SpaceX founder told those in attendance.

“That’s a fundamental issue that we have where we have a deficit of $2 trillion and we have interest payments that now exceed the entire budget of the military,” he pointed out.
“In fact, that was a big wake-up call for me was when the amount of money that we pay in national debt interest exceeded the Defense Department budget,” Musk declared.
“And the Defense Department budget is very big and interest is higher than that and climbing. That’s a disaster,” he went on to add.
Critics say Musk will split conservative voters
Breitbart noted that this past Friday, Musk suggested that he would target vulnerable lawmakers who voted in favor of the spending bill.
“One way to execute on this would be to laser-focus on just 2 or 3 Senate seats and 8 to 10 House districts,” he wrote in a post.
Breitbart pointed out that some X users criticized Musk, arguing that he will help to elect Democrats in a similar manner to how Ross Perot is believed by many to have helped to elect President Bill Clinton by dividing conservative voters.
