WEST PALM BEACH, FL – Nearly three years after a harrowing incident, a young therapist is taking legal action against the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, her employer, and the father of her attacker. The woman, identified as Jane Doe H.H., alleges that the brutal ordeal she endured could have been prevented.
Doe, a licensed therapist, visited the home of a 20-year-old client, Svi Alswang, on July 1, 2022. Unbeknownst to her, Alswang had a history of sexual violence and severe mental illness. Upon arriving alone at his Boca Raton residence, she was subjected to 15 hours of torment, including being duct-taped, tied, and assaulted.
The lawsuit, filed recently, accuses the involved parties of negligence. It claims that the attack was meticulously planned, with windows blacked out and her phone wrapped in foil to block tracking. Despite these red flags, the lawsuit contends that the attack was preventable.
As the nightmare unfolded, Doe’s partner grew alarmed when she failed to return home and repeatedly contacted authorities. Deputies from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office responded but hesitated to intervene, even after reportedly hearing a scream from inside the house.
Tragically, Doe was forced to endure additional hours of terror before deputies finally acted. When they entered the premises, Alswang held a knife to her neck in a closet. A deputy shot Alswang, who survived and later pleaded guilty. He is now serving four life sentences.
Doe’s lawsuit argues that the sheriff’s office, her employer Rejuvenate Counseling, and Alswang’s father all had opportunities to prevent the attack. The suit highlights the failure to act despite clear signs of danger and the suspicious circumstances surrounding the house.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office has declined to comment on the ongoing litigation. Attempts to reach Rejuvenate Counseling for a statement were unsuccessful.
As Doe seeks justice, she continues to grapple with the trauma of that day. The legal proceedings aim to hold those she believes could have protected her accountable, striving to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
