A young TikTok creator with thousands of followers has been charged in the brutal shooting of a Marine veteran and devoted father in a Houston mall parking garage — a killing that left the victim’s family reeling and demanding justice.
Anthony Sanders, 30, was fatally gunned down on June 3 around 5 p.m. in the parking garage at the upscale Houston Galleria while out with his fiancée and their 10-month-old son. He was rushed to Ben Taub Hospital but died from his injuries, police confirmed.
Now, two men are behind bars facing murder charges. The first, 23-year-old Marko Cinan, was arrested on June 25. A second suspect — 22-year-old Justin Guzman — turned himself in five days later, on June 30. Guzman, who has over 50,000 followers on TikTok, is also facing a murder charge. His bond is set at $750,000, and he’s due in court on July 9, the same day as Cinan, whose bond was set at $1 million.
According to local reports, the deadly confrontation stemmed from an argument involving Sanders’ fiancée. After words were exchanged, the suspects allegedly blocked Sanders’ vehicle, preventing him from leaving. When he got out of the car to confront them, they reportedly opened fire — hitting him ten times.
His mother, Ronyel Sanders, told reporters she was on the phone with her son when the shooting happened. “He died protecting his son and his fiancée, which he always does,” she said through tears.
Court documents allege the attackers deliberately escalated the situation. “They didn’t allow him to leave. Brake-checked him, reversed, and tried to hit his car,” Ronyel said.
Adding to the family’s outrage, a disturbing TikTok allegedly posted by Guzman after the killing has surfaced — splicing together news reports about Sanders’ death with videos of Guzman dancing. Sanders’ family said they’ve turned the footage over to prosecutors.
Guzman’s lawyer, Romy Kaplan, insists his client acted in self-defense. “He was approached with a knife, possibly a gun,” Kaplan claimed, calling it a “self-defense case.” However, court records reportedly show that Sanders was unarmed.
Kaplan added that Guzman voluntarily surrendered and cooperated fully with police.
Anthony Sanders is being remembered by loved ones as a “beloved fiancé” and “devoted father.” A GoFundMe page set up in his honor describes him as someone whose “greatest joy was his precious baby boy and his beautiful fiancée, Selena.”
“We are here for justice — justice for Anthony,” said his father, Frank Sanders. “And to bring awareness to what’s happening in Houston right now.”
