If you thought the outrage on the left was bad before, wait until they see what President Donald Trump is doing now.
On Thursday, it was announced that 200 U.S. Marines are being sent to Florida to protect ICE agents.
According to DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, attacks against agents have increased again, now up a reported 700% from past years.
Call in the Marines
U.S. Northern Command just announced the move on Thursday.
Command stated that the Marines will be used to “augment U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s interior immigration enforcement mission with critical administrative and logistical capabilities at locations as directed by ICE.”
The announcement continued, “These Marines are the first wave of U.S. Northern Command’s (USNORTHCOM’s) support of this ICE mission. Other support locations will include Louisiana and Texas. Service members participating in this mission will perform strictly non-law enforcement duties within ICE facilities.”
The communication went on, “Their roles will focus on administrative and logistical tasks, and they are specifically prohibited from direct contact with individuals in ICE custody or involvement in any aspect of the custody chain.”
While Democrats and media personalities are likely to portray this as Trump taking military actions against illegals, the order clearly states they are not to directly engage.
They are there to protect agents from attacks, nothing more.
This remains part of the initial order given on May 9, for Marines to provide support to ICE due to the rise in attacks against agents.
Gov. Ron DeSantis has been a true warrior for Trump on this front, actively working to limit illegal immigration in his state.
The most recent move by DeSantis was to open Alligator Alcatraz, a $450 million per year facility that will operate at less than 50% of the costs (estimated) of what the Biden administration was doing by putting illegals up in hotels.
The facility reportedly already has about 5,000 beds, but DeSantis plans on expanding the operation, provided he can get past the lawsuits that are already flooding in from activists.
Trump visited the facility earlier in the week, as he and DeSantis appear to have buried the hatchet from the contentious 2024 Republican primary race.
Democrats in Congress, as well as local politicians in Florida, are fighting the facility, claiming that it is inhumane to hold the illegals in the Everglades while also making the case that the facility itself is a threat to the local environment and wildlife.
While I don’t think they will be able to stop the existing facility’s operation, the expansion is likely to be held up in court for some time.
