Rep. Wesley Hunt (R-TX) is renewing his call for the month of July to be officially recognized as “American Pride Month,” introducing a resolution in Congress and calling on President Donald Trump to support the effort with a national proclamation.
Hunt’s initiative is designed to highlight America’s founding ideals, national achievements and patriotic legacy.
The resolution, which he reintroduced Tuesday, calls for honoring historical figures and celebrating the values that have defined the United States since its founding.
In his resolution, Hunt calls for July to be recognized not just for Independence Day, but for the entire month to serve as a tribute to American exceptionalism, civic pride and historical education.
The measure celebrates patriots from the Revolutionary War to the modern era, including leaders such as George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Rosa Parks and the Buffalo Soldiers.
“This initiative… was born out of a desire to celebrate the extraordinary individuals and timeless values that have defined our republic, from the patriots of 1776 to the leaders of today who continue to defend freedom and preserve our way of life,” Hunt said.
The Texas congressman is also urging President Trump to issue an official proclamation supporting the designation.
“No president in our history understands the value of patriotism and passing that down more than President Trump,” Hunt declared.
Hunt first introduced the American Pride Month resolution in 2023.
He said the movement began in 2022 as a grassroots campaign and has since grown in national attention.
The resolution also echoes former President Ronald Reagan’s farewell address by emphasizing the importance of teaching American history “based not on what’s in fashion but what’s important.”
In an exclusive statement to Breitbart News, Hunt explained that the effort comes in response to increasing cultural division and what he described as an imbalance in national messaging.
“America is tired. Tired of cultural tribalism, tired of performative virtue-signaling, and tired of watching our national identity hijacked by agendas that cater to a loud but narrow minority,” he said.
Hunt also drew a sharp contrast with the prominence of June’s Pride Month, stating that the founding month of the country deserves greater national recognition.
“If corporations and left-wing activists can co-opt June to promote their ideology under the banner of ‘Pride Month,’ then surely July, the month of our founding, can and must be reclaimed to honor something far greater: American Pride Month,” he said.
As part of the renewed campaign, Hunt will release a patriotic video each day throughout July on social media.
The first installment—an exclusive preview shared with Breitbart—debuted on July 1.
The initiative comes at a time when American pride has hit historic lows.
According to Gallup’s latest data, national pride has significantly declined, particularly among Democrats and younger Americans, even as Republican pride remains high.
Hunt’s resolution seeks to reverse that trend and re-center patriotism in public life.
He encouraged Americans to look beyond just celebrating the Fourth of July and instead embrace the entire month as a time to reflect on what makes the nation exceptional.
“From sea to shining sea, let’s make patriotism cool again. Let’s not just celebrate freedom on the 4th of July, let’s honor our founding, our flag, and our future every single day throughout this sacred month,” Hunt said.
