CNN pundit: Citizenship status of Trump’s children should be investigated

The New York Post reported earlier this week that the Trump administration is seeking to denaturalize immigrants who have been convicted of certain crimes.

That fact led a CNN commentator to call for an investigation into the citizenship status of President Donald Trump’s own children. 

Pundit calls for scrutiny

According to Fox News, that suggestion was made during Wednesday’s episode of CNN NewsNight with Abby Phillip by pundit and former Democrat lawmaker Bakari Sellers.

“Look, if we want to have a conversation about who belongs where, when, how, and whether or not their citizenship status- and we want to look at everything, I mean, I would look at Donald Trump Jr.,” Sellers declared.

“I would look at all of Melania‘s kids, all of Ivana’s kids. I mean, let‘s just have a full conversation over who belongs here, how did they get here, their citizenship status,” he continued.

Born in the USA

“Let‘s just have a full discussion about all of it,” Sellers began.

He went on, “Why is that not on the table right now? I mean, the only person here should be Tiffany Trump, if we‘re going to have this discussion.”

Fox News noted that first lady Melania Trump, who is the mother of Barron Trump, became an American citizen in 2006 roughly a decade after she came to the United States.

Meanwhile, the late Ivana Trump gained her citizenship in 1988 and is the mother of Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump, and Ivana Trump.

Meanwhile, Tiffany Trump is the daughter of Marla Maples, who is a native-born citizen. Fox News pointed out that all of the Trump children were born in the U.S.

Administration to pursue denaturalization

The Post reported that Assistant Attorney General Brett Shumate put out a memo earlier this month that explained that the Department of Justice (DOJ) will pursue denaturalization “in all cases permitted by law and supported by the evidence.”

The policy will target individuals “who pose a potential danger to national security, including those with a nexus to terrorism, espionage, or the unlawful export from the United States of sensitive goods, technology, or information raising national security concerns.”

Also cited are those who “further or furthered the unlawful enterprise of criminal gangs, transnational criminal organizations, and drug cartels.” Efforts to denaturalize immigrants who have been found guilty of fraud, violent and sexually related crimes, along with human trafficking offenses, will also be undertaken.
