Once a year for 249 years, Americans take the day off work, buy some fireworks, beer, and food for the grill, to celebrate USA Independence on July 4th. But 249 years into this annual tradition, how many Americans know why we celebrate this day each year?
It was April 19, 1775 – when a band of average Citizens, a militia made up of farmers, business owners and local bar patrons, decided they had had enough taxation without representation from the governing body in England. They had enough of King George III’s tyrannical central power and British rule over the New World.
The Shot Heard Round the World at Concord: April 19, 1775, brought together a group of ordinary people determined to do something extraordinary… That started our War for Independence from Great Britain and British Rule that would last for eight years until 1783, when the British monarchy acknowledged the independence of the original Thirteen Colonies, leading to the establishment of the United States as an independent and sovereign nation.
Our Declaration of Independence would not be written or adopted until July 4, 1776, declared our Independence Day, although the war to win our independence would wage on for seven more years.
25,534 American combatants lost their lives in the eight-year armed conflict, according to historian Howard H. Peckham’s 1974 book The Toll of Independence. Each life was lost to purchase our freedom and independence!
Since that first war to gain our freedom and independence as a free sovereign people, millions of other ordinary citizens have voluntarily given of themselves in extraordinary service for our freedom and independence.
But for how many years, decades, or generations have these extraordinary sacrifices and blessings of a few, been taken for granted by those who have so greatly benefited from it all?
What is our commitment to the eternal vigilance necessary in defense of the freedom and independence that they purchased for us at such a high price to them?
What will we be celebrating tomorrow?
Today, we live under a tyranny not so different from that which our nation’s Founders took a stand against 250 years ago. As we watch the unelected British Common Law courts in our country run roughshod over the two elected branches and all Americans, how much freedom and independence do we really have today? Is this not British Rule via British Law in our courts, used to undermine Constitutional Law?
Look no further than what our government did to our country over what we now know, was the CV19 scamdemic. Look no further than the mobs taking over our cities in direct opposition to the foundations of freedom, liberty and justice. Look no further than the global Marxists and Islamic Terrorism supporters in our society and halls of government.
Where are the patriots of our time and other than enjoying a BBQ, fireworks and a cold beer tomorrow, what are we doing to protect and preserve freedom, liberty, justice and our sovereign independence for all future generations?
I can and will celebrate the sacrifices that so many made for us in the past… but I struggle to celebrate our current generations on July 4th. Every July 4th for years now, I can’t help but wonder if we even deserve the fruits of freedom, purchased for us by only a few, so long ago… Only to watch Americans refer to “nationalism” (aka national pride) like it’s a dirty word! Only to watch young Americans burn our flag in the streets while carrying the flags of foreign nations and known terror organizations…?
I will gladly celebrate all who gave it all for us. But as for the millions who take it all for granted without securing these blessings for our posterity? Not so much…
How about you?
