Mayor Jacob Frey is facing renewed criticism after appearing on stage speaking Somali at a celebration marking the 65th anniversary of Somalia’s independence. The event, mainly attended by Somali immigrants, has drawn attention to Frey’s ongoing alignment with foreign cultural and religious agendas over American civic identity.
Frey, a Democrat, has been instrumental in policies that critics say have helped transform Minneapolis into a de facto Islamic enclave, often referred to by locals as “Little Mogadishu.” His participation in the Somali-language ceremony has fueled claims that he is no longer representing the interests of American citizens, but rather appeasing an imported population that, in many cases, does not speak English.
Among Frey’s most controversial actions:
- Legalized the public Islamic call to prayer (adhan) five times a day, beginning at dawn
- Lifted citywide noise restrictions to allow mosques to broadcast amplified Arabic prayers across Minneapolis
- Collaborated with CAIR, an organization with documented ties to Hamas and designated by the U.S. Department of Justice as an unindicted co-conspirator in the nation’s largest terror financing trial
- Advanced policies that prioritize foreign cultural norms over American values and civic unity
According to Minnesota Compass data, the Somali-born population is now one of the largest immigrant groups in the state. In Cedar-Riverside—commonly known as “Little Mogadishu”—the demographic transformation is striking:
- Nearly 40% of residents are foreign-born
- 47% speak Somali
- 25% report limited English proficiency
Critics argue that Minneapolis has become a cautionary tale of what happens when left-wing leadership and Islamic supremacist movements align, creating what some describe as a “Red-Green Axis” intent on dismantling American identity.
“This isn’t diversity,” one Minneapolis resident said. “It’s cultural surrender. And Frey is leading the charge.”
