Iran suspended its cooperation with the United Nations’ International Atomic Energy Agency upon Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s ratification of the legislation.
The ratification occurred Wednesday, following U.S. and Israeli airstrikes on Iran’s most critical nuclear facilities last month, The Hill news outlet reported.
Iran says its nuclear activities are for peaceful purposes and that it’s suspending cooperation with the IAEA until “conditions are met,” including “ensuring the security” of the country’s facilities and scientists. Israel claims that it killed 14 Iranian nuclear scientists in its attacks on Iran last month.
The Iranian government claims the new law signed Wednesday is occurring under the framework of the Non-Proliferation Treaty and its related safeguards. The international treaty with 190 countries requires cooperation with the IAEA.
