House advances ‘big, beautiful’ bill toward final vote
After an all-night effort, House Republicans managed to flip key holdouts and advance President Donald Trump’s massive $3.3 trillion tax and spending bill. Voting just before 3:30 a.m. EST, the House advanced the One Big Beautiful Bill Act 219 to 213.
Trump personally pressured lawmakers on Truth Social, calling the delay ridiculous and warning, “MAGA is not happy.”
Only one Republican in Pennsylvania, Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick, broke ranks and voted with Democrats against the procedural move.
The real fight begins now that the bill is on the floor for debate.
Democrats might use procedural tactics to delay the final vote, and the timing remains uncertain. Speaker Mike Johnson said he expects a vote around 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 3, but it could happen sooner or later.
The bottom line: the bill is progressing, but it’s not finalized yet.
Abrego Garcia claims he was beaten while in custody
A Maryland man involved in a high-profile deportation during the Trump administration now says he was tortured after being sent back to El Salvador. Kilmar Abrego Garcia claims he was beaten, starved and subjected to sleep deprivation inside El Salvador’s notorious CECOT prison. He said he lost 30 pounds in just two weeks.

Abrego Garcia was deported in March after being mistakenly identified as a gang member. The Trump administration initially described it as a paperwork error, then later claimed he was tied to MS-13.
The U.S. Supreme Court ordered his return, but now he’s back in U.S. custody and facing human smuggling charges. His wife has sued the government over what she calls a catastrophic mistake.
Abrego Garcia’s currently being held in Tennessee and awaiting trial.
Diddy remains in New York jail after partial acquittal
Sean “Diddy” Combs remains in custody at the Metropolitan Detention Center in New York on Thursday morning, July 3, after a federal judge rejected his request for release even though a Manhattan jury acquitted him of the most serious charges, including sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy.

Diddy clasped his hands in prayer and mouthed “thank you” to the jurors as the verdict was announced, visibly emotional after being acquitted of charges that could have sent him to prison for life. But the judge wasn’t moved, citing his history of domestic violence while denying him bond.
The jury did find Combs guilty of two lesser charges of transporting individuals for prostitution. Each carries a possible sentence of up to 10 years. Prosecutors are seeking at least four years. His sentencing is scheduled for October, though his legal team wants it moved earlier.
Kohberger pleads guilty as new evidence revealed in college murders
After over two and a half years of sealed court documents, gag orders and mourning, the man accused of killing four University of Idaho students has finally confessed.
Bryan Kohberger pleaded guilty Wednesday, July 2, to the stabbings, acknowledging for the first time that he planned and carried out the murders of Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin. In court, Kohberger sat emotionless as the judge reviewed each count: His plea opened the door to new evidence.

For the first time, prosecutors provided details they had kept confidential. It includes surveillance footage showing Kohberger’s car speeding away from the scene, how he might have coincidentally encountered one of the victims and a used Q-tip recovered from his parents’ trash that helped confirm the DNA match.
Prosecutors admitted they couldn’t prove Kohberger intended to kill all four victims, only that he entered with the intent to kill and didn’t stop, which might explain the plea deal.

It spares the families the trauma of a trial, but not all support it. Some said they still don’t have the answers they’ve waited years to hear, including why.
Kohberger’s sentencing is scheduled for July 23, and he will not face the death penalty.
Princess Kate gives rare glimpse of life after ‘roller coaster’ cancer battle
As she slowly reenters public life, Princess Kate opens up about her battle with cancer, offering a rare and deeply personal look into what remission truly feels like.
During a Wednesday visit to a cancer support center in the UK, the Princess of Wales described her experience as a “roller coaster.” She spoke candidly about the emotional toll that often comes after treatment ends.
“You put on a sort of brave face, stoicism through treatment. Treatments done, then it’s like ‘I can crack on, get back to normal,’ but actually the phase afterwards is really, is really you know difficult,” She said. “You’re not necessarily under the clinical team any longer, but you’re not able to function normally at home as you perhaps once used to.”
Princess Kate revealed her diagnosis in March 2024, choosing not to disclose the specific type of cancer but stepping away from royal duties to focus on her health. She began chemotherapy in September 2024, and by January, announced she was in remission.
Since then, she’s been gradually returning to public appearances, including Wednesday’s visit, where she toured a wellbeing garden and planted a rose on the facility’s grounds.
