The BBC Complaints Director Colin Tregear has enrolled on the green grooming course run as a six-month sabbatical by the Oxford Climate Journalism Network (OCJN). The course is funded by the Green Blob and aims to make the ‘climate crisis’ a central element in the journalism of the attendees. Tregear is said to have responsibility for climate complaints at the BBC. Quite why the British TV taxpayer should fund this activist boondoggle for a man who is supposed to independently consider matters that often involve disputed areas of science is not immediately clear. In the past, attendees have been asked to consider that fruit such as mangoes aren’t as tasty as a year ago due to climate change. A previous speaker is on record as speculating on the need for “fines and imprisonment” for those expressing scepticism about “well supported” science.

How on earth can Colin Tregear continue in his role in the BBC’s Executive Complaints Unit? He is supposed to be an independent arbiter of complaints against the BBC, including ones concerning their often biased and fake coverage of climate change.
One look at the OCJN website shows it is not an objective organisation or one interested in factual reporting. Instead its aim is to encourage journalists to ramp up climate alarm in their stories.
It is surely the last place a BBC Complaints Officer should be sent for indoctrination.
Interestingly the BBC have responded to the Daily Sceptic, pointing out that Tregear is not “ECU Director”, but just a “ Complaints Advisor”. In fact, he used to be the Director, so quite what relevance their quibble has is a mystery.
But their response fails completely to address the central issue of the ECU’s supposed impartiality, which will inevitably be harmed by Tregear’s enrolment on this one sided course.
FOOTNOTE
It was, of course, Colin Tregear who handled my recent complaint about the BBC’s claim that hurricanes are getting more powerful, a claim which is contradicted by NOAA who say they most definitely are not.
Tregear naturally thought he knew better than NOAA and rejected my complaint.
